I have heard that from a couple of people....also i have heard that the 5w20 is for bearing clearances and other mechanical reasons....i will use 5w20 until 35-40 then might switch....but that is also when i will probably get a new built engine so we will see

I am not sure why the saleens guys W/O the SC said that 5w30 is recommend, we have the same engines in the GT as your saleen does

PennzOil Platinum 5W20 w/ FRPP filter. Pure1 filter is also very good.

CAFErequirments are no big secret...5w-20w oils are more than adequate for these engines and there are great oils in this viscosity, as illustrated with substantial UOA analysis data...that first article was written in 2003--how many engine failures attributed to 5w-20 oil have occured in the time since? (probably about as many as those attributed to 5w-30 oil--few if any)

an article that includes ominous suggestions that those obeying the speed limit are a danger to themselves and others loses credibility quickly despite any amount of technical persuasion...

use 5w-30 if you so choose--if you can produce information that qualitatively substantiates using that viscosity over a 5w-20, i'm interested in seeing it--until then, i'll run the recommended 5w-20 and time will tell what kind of fool i am

i ran mobil1 until 15k and i'm currently running castrol syntec 5w-20, although i plan to go to pennzoil platinum in both the GT and my pickup with the next change as it's shown great results for others in the same engines and is often available for less $$ than the syntec...ymmv

In my personal experience, amsoil is def the #1. Hence why i became a dealer to get discounts off their product line i use on my other cars. Royal Purple is utter crap. Burns fast, does not hold up well in heat from turbocharging, horrible flash point, etc. (based off my own oil analysis) Mobil1 is another good and cheap synthetic to go with. Many of the engine builders and tuners here in TX do not approve of RP use. And many turbocharged folks had premature oil seal failures, and it was all traced back to the oil not lubricating to welll after 3k miles.

As for oil viscosity, my 2003 Acura RSX non-Type-S engine requires 5w-20. As stated on the cap and manual. I suspect the reasoning behind it is emissions. So after using 5w-30 in all oil changes after the 1st oil change when i got the car new, its still holding up fine today. with 75K miles on the motor, now turbocharged since 50K miles, pushing 21+psi with water/methanol injection. All daily driven, Houston city driving. i send out my oil samples for analysis every oil change and results are good everytime. (with amsoil and m1)
