Tune Question

Tune Question
I got my Steeda cai and tune from Breenspeed about two weeks ago and I have been running the 87 oct tune since. I have been wanting to experimant with the different tunes so I ran the 87 tune for three tanks and when I filled up this morning I filled up with 89. The question I have is; will I be o.k. switching to the 89 tune now or do I need to wait until the next tank full so I have a FULL tank of 89. When i filled up this morning I put in 13.6 gal. of 89 so I was thinking that I might be alright to switch now, but I wanted to ask the experts first. Thanks in advance for the help.

RE: Tune Question
Although you MAY be alright, depending on the quality of the fuel and IF the 89 you put in was on the ragged edge of 89 or if it was higher, but I'd run the tank down and refill with 89 or higher before loading the 89 tune. I loaded the 89 tune last week because that's what was in my tank and have since put in about 12 gallons of 93 in preperation of loading the 93 tune. I'm waiting until I refill again with 93 before laoding it, though.Other than being impatient, no rush.

RE: Tune Question
It won't really matter what you do. You could have run a 91 octane tune with the 87 octane gas. Your timing would have been off (the higher octane will combust at a greater rate), but really only at the expense of some power.
I say go ahead and switch to the 89 octane tune. You won't achieve peak performance until all of your gasoline is 89 octane, but you won't really notice the difference. People run improper octane in their engines all the time thinking "Premium is better for my engine, hurrrrr." In reality, since the engine is tuned for a different octane, their timing is off, so they're losing some performance points. But there's no harm really done.
In conclusion: go ahead. You're running mostly 89 anyways. By your next tank, you'll be a-ok.

this is the only cooment that is absolutley correct. ill ad my part. i make 452rwhp on 93oct. i filled half way with straight 100oct and went back to the dyno and made 434. however because of the octane i will have lesss chance of detonating, and we were able to make a new tune with more timing. the gas wont effect the car like you think unless its bad gas or youFI

And your example is completely backwards. Sure its okay to run a higher octane than the tune is for, but the opposite is a NO NO.
