Default LongTubes 1 3/4" or 1 5/8"

I am almost set on gettting a set of Lts here soon. I do plan on FI sometime within the next 6 months. My question is, are the 1 3/4" going to affect my low range torque while NA? I've thought of just going with 1 5/8" but then if I ever build up my engine, with a blower, then 1 3/4" would be perfect it seems. Im stuck. or i could just say screw the LTs and keep saving. What to do!?

If are really going to go FI in the next 6 months then just hold off on the headers altogether.

If you do 1 5/8" now it would work great with the N/A but not so good for the FI (too restrictive when you are pushing boost).
If you do 1 3/4" now it will cost you on the bottom end with N/A (not enough 'scavenging' effect) but will eventually be good for FI.

For the time and expense, I think you should just hold off. In my case. headers are one of those "I can add whenever I want to strap on even more power" additions but that is coming after wheels/tires and suspension at this point.

Looks like you go about all the good $/return bolt ons. Thought about N20 to tide you over?

Actually I would think twice about ever using 13/4 primaries. JDM and many other have stated that they are experiencing issues on the bigger primary long tubes where the O2 sensors do not get heated up correctly and the car runs like crap when it is cold.
There would be no horsepower gain by choosing 1 3/4 over 1 5/8 so i would just stay at 1 5/8 whether you go FI or not.

I definitely have thought about nitrous, and have read FredTT's entire post on nitrous specific to our cars. Before about a week ago, I had no clue about it but have done some research and I feel that it is safe with all the commodities and most likely sticking to a 100 or 125 shot. However, that safe setup is going to be about $1100 give or take, and that just doesnt sound good when saving for a blower haha. What size primaries come stock?

@zkiller- thx for the input, maybe ill email JDM.

I was in the same predicament as you and decided that it was best to hold off of LT's until after I get the blower...I suggest the same for you then you can get the 1 3/4"

so I have AHR 1 3/4 on right now. there is not a huge loss down los., barely noticable. sounds great and once at 3krpm you feel the extra Hp. I ogt them for the same reason. plan on getting a whipple in the next year. for many people getting evewrything all at once is not really a financial option. Yes, some LT's have had problems with the O2 sensors but that is just due to the fact of the long tubes and not the diameter of the tubes. ask a tuner. as far as getting 1.5/8 now then getting 1 3/4 later...you couldn't think of anything better to do with a $1000?
