my tool chest alone was 500, that was a good craftsman, a snap on is like in the thousands.....

For tools you need a great socket set, craftsman 253 piece set is like 199 or less on sale....thats what i got, torq wrenches....you need 2 good ones, Precision instruments are the same as snap on just lower in price

3/8 Drive
1/2 Drive

That should get you started

Thank you for the help...I am a little clueless at "tool terminology"...what does the 3/8 and 1/2 drive mean?

That is the dimension of the part of the ratchet that fits into the socket. They make 1/4, 3/8, and 3/4 drive are the more common ones you will find. They do make larger ones but that is for really heavy equipment.
The 1/4 inch sets are mostly used for smaller bolts and nuts and as they get larger and require more torque the tools get larger. You will have some overlap with sockets in each set, meaning that you could have some sockets that are in a 1/4 drive set as well as in a 3/8 drive set, and the same goes for a 3/8 and a 1/2 inch set. Then you also have 6 point sockets and 12 point sockets. Usually in automotive a 6 point socket is what you need. Did I totally confuse you?

Go to a Sears web site and look at the tool sets and you will see what I am talking about.

Oh no snap on is top of the line......but the price tag will cause your relatives to go broke!
Well I want the best cuz I will have these for a long *** time. I can get a pretty good discount through my internship with Nascar. Say you had $600-800 to spend on tools and a tool box...what would you guys get, tell me how you would spend that money if you had no other tools
a really good snap-on set, with toolbox is about $20,000-$25,000 dollars...fyi

a lot of dealership and big mechanics sets run almost to $100,000-$125,000.
My friend has just about every single tool you could need for any car, and it was about $125,000 dollars.

Not trying to haze on you or anything - just curious. How is it that you have an internship with Nascar but you know very little about tools? What is it that you do with/for Nascar? Just wondering.

I use Craftsman and Kobalt tools mostly.

If you want top of the line tools and box you wont get past the box with 600-800. Buy the cheapest Lifetime warranty tools you can find trust me its what I did and the tools are fine; I bought a 300 peice kit with a small tool box for like 500 CDN all but the box have lifetime warranty. I broke a wratchet and got a new one without issue.

I use Mastercraft from Canadian Tire.I also havea sh!tty *** Jobmate box.

After I bought the kit I just buy tools as I need them.
