How critical is it to be at 1/2" below the filler plug?

What if you just fill it up until it starts overflowing out the filler plug?

It will most likely puke excess oil out the top breather tube if you over fill it. Not sure if it will cause a problem, but why not slowly fill it until you can feel oil through the fill hole with you finger.

I was just wondering... I will end up doing that. Dump the full 3 quarts and slowly feel my way to the 0.2 quarts.

I just thought filling it till it spills out was much easier... lol

Well that's how I filled the rear end. It will just puke it out the breather, probably won't hurt the transmission, but I wouldn't risk hurting the trans.

i used one of these pumps when i did mine it was $13 at home depot, originally bought it to pressureize the oiling system when i built the motor. it worked great and was real easy with no mess, just filled it up with what i needed, pumped it up and pulled the trigger. i also swapped my stock fluid for royal purple, and since doing so i have not had a sceond gear grind.

Why does Ford recommend filling 1/2" below fill plug and TREMEC recommend filling up to the fill plug

Do you need to change the transmission fluid on an 05+ GT? I haven't gotten under my car in a while but somebody told me that you can't change the transmission fluid. There is no dipstick or anything. Anybody care to verify?
