Default Octane Question

So I was talking with someone who runs 93 octane in his 07 GT, he told me that his owners manual recommends it, I looked in mine and it recommends 87.... so a few questions:

1. Does the octane recommendation change per state to account for different altitudes?

2. Can I run 93 octane in my 07 GT?

3. What damage if any might I experience from running a higher octane?

Sorry if these are total noob questions, I did a few searches, found a few threads but nothing that seemed to really answer my specific questions.

Oh and the reason behind these question is I was planning on getting a SCT X3 from bamachips and was just trying to work out what tunes I should get.... I was thinking 87 performance, 89 performance and torque but if I can run 93 octane without any really issues I might get the 93 performance / torque tunes instead.

Oh and oh again.... this is kinda off topic but uploading a custom tune would invalidate my warranty right? So if I'm taking it in for a service I need to revert back to the stock tune right??

Thanks.

You can run 93 without a problem.

As a matter of fact, and I believe it was an article from Kenne Bell, the GT is actually tuned by Ford for 91 (premium) but due to the knock sensors and VCT, they can say it's an 87 car b/c those things will let it run "good enough" on 87.

It's cleaner to run 91 or higher anyway.

an 07 GT does NOT require 93 octane. RTFM (read the friggin manual)

His TUNE may but from Ford it will not.

Even the Shelby recommends 91 not 93.
Bullitt 87 or 91.

If that's aimed at me then the first line of my post was:

So I did read it I'm just looking for some clarification, if I get a 93 tune do I need to swap anything else out to safely run it?

93 octane will give you no performance gains. Some claim that it is detrimental over time. If you want to run 93 octane, get a tune for it and get some REAL performance benefits to boot..

EDIT: Just saw you have a CAI & tuner. So why are you asking???

The tuner is on the way but I don't know what tunes to get for it - I was thinking about 87 performance, 89 performance and 89 torque but if I can safely run 93 octane should I get it loaded with 93 tunes instead? I guess I don't really understand the implications of running a higher octane grade on a stock engine with just the ECU remapped and a CAI....

That make any sense??

You don't need any mods to run 93. Just tune it for 93 and you'll be good to go.

Great - thank you just the answer I was looking for.

Then if it needs to go in for service or an inspection just run the tank low then re-flash it to stock and put 87 back in it??

^You don't have to put 87 back in it. Just reflash to stock if you take it to the dealer or emissions station.
