Default Exhaust Expert: Resonators?

I'm looking to buy a Louvered Resonator and despite searching all day for one it looks like these are really hard to find (all I found was a guy in his basement making one). It looks like there are three kinds of resonators that one can buy.

A Shotgun Resonator:

A Perforated Resonator:

A Louvered Core Resonator:

The problem with finding these according to a Chip Foose article I just read is that few resonator manufacturers actually tell you what type of core a resonator muffler or glasspack has either way, and second the louvered core is considered inferior to the perforated core so it's further hard to find it written in the product literature.

I also found a company making muffler parts out of stainless steel, I could just weld what I want together for about $100 per side but I want it to be tuned by a professional company.

Why is it so important?

I just bought some 18" Hedman Hedders glasspacks to tone done my O/R H. It did that perfectly. Now I can hear myself think for I still get some drone at about 80mph. I will probably change the axlebacks down the line.

But IMO resonators are a must with an O/R pipe.

Pypes M80's are a perforated resonator. i had them welded in after the o/r x pipe and it made my setup sound much better. w/ LT's, o/r x pipe, muffler deletes it was too loud and NASCAR sounding, w/ the M80's much better tone but still pretty loud.

I believe magnaflow magnapacks are a perforated "glasspack" ....looks like the second pic but it is very long and really not used as a resonator...sorry no help!

i think these are the same as the magnapacks, and they are the same size as the Pypes M80's, so they should fit. Mygt500 was helpful after all

It's so important because I'm going to be placing these at the end of my straight exhaust to maintain back pressure and low end torque over high end hp, the reason louvered resonators are bad is that they increase restriction when you're using mufflers, but I'm not going to.

You're right in that there are popular glasspacks that use a louvered design because it's cheaper and i guess more people buy glasspacks then resonators, but the problem is that glasspacks reduce engine noise.

I want my car to wake the dead which is sad because everything I find tries to quiet down the exhaust.

What I might end up doing is welding my own bullet resonators.
