Default McLeod RST - Looking for Install Tips-sticky above!

update: got the mcleod flywheel yesterday,
so this morning was time to put it all
together.

i want to thank my technical advisors.....moose,
sactown, mustard, casey (hms), lee (mcleod) and
anyone else i've forgotten about (sorry).....

i would not have attempted this project without
the tips i got, from the individuals mentioned
above.....

i'll have a full write up available to anyone who is
looking to do a clutch replacement, it will have all
of the tips learned from the clutch guru crew, all
put together in one nice neat package......

-------------------------------------------------

anyone who has actually installed this
one themselves, or knows how their installer
set everything up, i'd like to hear from you...

my main question is:

if you are using either the Mcleod billet steel
flywheel or the stock flywheel and a OEM
slave cylinder, do you just bolt everything
up, or do you need to do some shimming?

i don't expect many responses on this, since this
is a pretty special application, but any
input is appreciated.

Are you going to install a 1 piece drive shaft at the same time? I was thinking about it and i'd do it separate, so you could tell if a vibration was from the new clutch or drive shaft.

Have fun! Here's a tip for torquing and removing the flywheel bolts, I stuck an allen wrench through one of the holes in the flywheel, so it wouldn't turn. there's a hole in the steel inspection plate for the starter, just put the allen wrench through where that starter hole is at. See that duct tape on the left, that's holding that cap over the hydraulic line.

i am going to do the one piece at the same time.....i
was thinking the same thing as you about vibration
troubleshooting, but i never want to see that stock
shaft again!

i'm also doing a hurst shifter, so much room to work
up in there now.....

i got the transmission out using your special procedure,
so over the next couple of weeks, i'll be in the
install mode......

Hammeron I will make a call today, but from what I remember I don't believe any shims were used.

I emailed Lee at McLeod
Here is what I asked: Hey Lee,

A bubby of mine is going to install the RST himself on his 2005 mustang gt, since I did not do my installation I can't offer him much help so I thought I would ask you his main question. does the RST require or need to be shimmed when using the McLeod billet steel flywheel and stock TOB? I told him I thought that it did not, and that it should pretty much bolt right in.

Here is his response:It’s a straight bolt in deal. Just make sure to bolt the adapter ring down first, and then assemble the rest of the unit bolting down the pressure plate last.
