RIMS n' TIRES

27 lbs?!?! Holy ****, I think I might save up for another set of SSR's or Volks afterall, or try to find a used set in good shape.
EDIT: http://nonstopmotorsports.com/images/Volk_TE37.gif
What do you guys think of these? They weigh around 18 lbs in an 18x9 wheel, you can order them in just about any finish you want, you can even go custom if you find a vendor that will order them that way.

Hi Budgy,
I like Volks, excellent wheels that are very light and strong, Weds are good too.

RE: RIMS n' TIRES
Hey don_w, since you seem to be the most knowledgeable on rim&tire size I need your opinion. I'm buying the 18x9 Saleen rim with a +36mm offset (6.42"BS).
275/40/18 or 285/40/18? I want to be able to pull next to a curb without scratching my rims... These both seem to be very popular sizes.
Thanks

RE: RIMS n' TIRES
I seriously doubt if I'm the most knowledgable, but I would be glad to share my thoughts.
I know a 275 will fit on a 9" wheel, but you should check the tire manufacturer's website to make sure that a 9" wheel is within the recommended range for a 285. It should be, but check anyway (better safe than sorry).
If it is, then I would go with the 285/40-18. A 285/40-18 will be about 0.32" taller than the 275/40-18. The 285/40-18 will be about 0.20" shorter than the stock 235/55-17's... which is almost negligible; but the 275/40-18 will be a full 1/2" shorter than stock. Unless you plan on lowering the car, the gap between tire and fender will be even larger with the 275/40-18. You'll also get more sidewall on the 285/40, which should help you near the curbs.
The offset is borderline, but it should be OK.

RE: RIMS n' TIRES
Exactly what Don said. Make sure the 285 will go on a 9" rim before you buy. I know 285's will fit on 9.5" rims, but not sure about 9". My sig pic has 285/40/18 rears on 18x9.5 +43mm offset rims, fwiw.

RE: RIMS n' TIRES
Thanks guys, delurker thanks for the response, I knew you had the 285's but with a 9.5 rim. (nice side pic)
I saw an older Saleen in the parking lot today with 275/35/18. I personaly didn't like the look. the tires seemed streached out and the rim was too exposed plus it wasn't lowered so it had quite the gap under the fender wells. It's possible he had a 10" rim, I believe they made both for the earlier models.

RE: RIMS n' TIRES
I am curious as to why when you order 2006 Mustang from factory with the 18' wheel package that there is also an upgrade the the suspension. Does this mean for those of you who have 16' or 17' wheels and want to go to an 18' that you have to also do something different with the suspension?[&:]
