Question Quick Pypes MM Hanger question

Spent some time searching to no avail. Just wondering if I need to get new hangers with the Pypes Mid Muffler for my '09 GT? American Muscle says I need to get the Pypes SS exhaust hangers as well or I wont be able to install it. Dont really wanna spend an extra 60 bucks if I dont have to though. Thanks!

I feel your pain. I had to buy the hangers for my LoudMouths because mine is an '08. You can check by yourself to see if you need the hangers. I bought the kit without knowing if I needed it or not... I would have been SOL if I attempted the install without it. Many aftermarket exhausts will not work if you have this problem. You can check for yourself:

Take a look at all your exhaust hangers underneath the car. Check the hanger on the driver side closest to the bumper. If this hanger appears different than the rest (as in it's welded to an entire plate that sits underneath the muffler), then you need the hanger kit, or you need another exhaust hanger to match all the others.

Good luck!

what year started needing the new hangers? I was having a rattle issue and bought the pypes hangers but turns out the hangers werent the problem all along. I am still using the pypes hangers but i have my stock 07 hangers in my garage.

it was on my old setup with JBA axlebacks and the hanger rod was contacting the rear of the car behind the bumper cover.

You will need the hanger kit for the '09. I think '05 - '06 are the only years that do not require new hangers. I put the MM system on my '05 and reused all of the factory hangers but I'm pretty sure they need a hanger kit starting with '07. The kit was pretty easily installed and sounds WAAAAAAAAY better than stock.

"In 2007, Ford changed the style of exhaust hanger used to install the stock exhaust on the new S197 Mustangs. They switched from a "rubber and steel" hanger design to an "all rubber" hanger, which will not work correctly with the after-market cat-back exhaust systems on the market.

The Pypes 2005+ Mustang 304 Stainless Steel Exhaust Hangers will allow you to install any 2005+ after-market cat-back correctly on a 2007 or newer Ford Mustang. We recommend that you add this to your order from the drop-down menu when you purchase your cat-back or axle-back exhaust."

This is directly from American Muscle
