it would be nice if someone did....it's hard
to describe the sound, it's kind of like grinding
second gear but it's sustained and louder. the
sound seems to come from the bell housing
area.

Wink

I'm going to video this sound as I can duplicate it @1700 rpm in 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears. I have done a lot of troubleshooting and with everyones help I think we can fix this.

Thanks Jamie

Just to clarify I did not fix the sound. My problem was that with the engine running I could not get the car in first or reverse while stopped. If the car was rolling slightly in the direction of the gear I could pop it in. Other than that it seemed to drive fine.

My problem turned out to be burr's on my input shaft that was causing the clutch to bind. My installed polished them off and the car has been great since.

I also was thinking about installing a new TOB the second time the trans came out but my installer said there was no need so I am still using the stock one.

My clutch engages high too but I have never noticed any slip.

If you trans is noisey and getting worse I think you problem is different than mine.

Might be the clutch is hazed or something.

Any big track launchs or burnouts riding the clutch?

Well Hammy, you know my opinion on the clutch. I think it's a normal noise.

I have solid mounts too. The NVH is not noticable. More on start up and shut off.

Simon1 i was hoping you'd stop by...

with your solid motor mounts, do you still hear
the low rpm rattle when lugging in a high gear?

you are the key to solving this...

Hamm, I put the torque limiters back on and I want to say I noticed a difference.

I would say the sound is 20% reduced. When accelerating through around 1500rpms the rattle period seems less than before. But if I go into a gear that is much to high for the speed I still get the sound.

Putting in MM might reduce it a little more but I doubt it will go away completely.

Also the "chugging" feeling while riding the clutch out is the same as it was.

Thanks,

that's interesting and i'm sure if you noticed
a difference, then there probably was one. this could
mean the rattle is related to some kind of drivetrain
vibration/harmonic resonance.

maybe the stock sprung clutch disk used to
absorb these vibrations and that's why nothing
rattled pre rst.

i think i'll put mine on too this weekend, thanks for
the update

Yeah harmonics might makes sense as I feel the noise happens in a narrower rpm band from before.

I am thinking of maybe just doing the MM's next time I have the car getting performance parts put on, because down the road I want to put on a GT-500 hood and I want as much clearance as possible. If this noise is reduced that is an added plus.

Honestly though my driving has already changed and I just downshift more frequently.

maybe the best we can do with
mounts and torque limiters, is
to narrow up the rpm band
