Need advice on Clutch and install
All right, the more I look at the manuals, the easier the clutch looks in our cars. I install most my own parts anyway. But how hard is the clutch for people who have done it? the main thing I am worried about is how high I have to get the car to lower the tranny out. Also, the advise I need is on this SPEC clutch and aluminum flywheel. What do you guys think?

IMO Go with the 3+ better for the weight of our cars and more street friendly than the puck design of the 3. If your draging or mostly street driving I'd suggest a steel FW and even the OEM works, I've had this set up in my car for about a year and 3000 miles and am pleased

Hi,
Check out hammeron's excellent clutch install writeup.
https://mustangforums.com/forum/4-6l...ion-guide.html
I'm also clutch shopping.
There's been a lot of complaints about the SPEC 2+ clutches, and SPEC's customer support in general... Search the forums.
People seem to love the Mcleod clutch. Kind of pricey though.
I'm leaning towards the Centerforce DFX myself from Summit Racing.
I'm also wondering if it's really necessary to change the flywheel?

do you think with 4k miles on my car I need to resurface it? I'm not replacing mine due to any kind of wear, I just feel it slip every now and then cause I have the supercharger on. thats the other reason I was looking at getting a flywheel though, cause i cant machine it myself and will probably end up doing the install. So most on here agree the aluminum one just isnt strong enough? whats the deal, metal too soft? I know it has a steel insert for the friction surface. let me know, thanks!

thank you doctorstrobe for those kind words!
you are a hard core DIY'er (s/c, gears, etc)
so i take it as a real compliment.
i wish you had done a detailed writeup on gears,
but i also realize how time consuming it can be.

the FW doesnt need to be completely resurfaced, it could be cleaned up by a good tech, mine was when I did the clutch swap at around 6000 miles.
the trouble w/ the Spec 2+ is that our cars weigh too much for the tq rating, go 3+ no issues that I've seen with it

How does the Mcleod compare to the 3+?
My eventual power goals are pretty low (400whp) but I'd like to have a seriously overbuilt clutch so I can abuse it a bit and not have to worry about needing a new one so quickly.
