Let The Bolt-Ons Begin...
3 weeks in and I've ordered some parts.
I managed to find a set of used Bassani axle backs (BX46075 chambered) on Craigslist for $180 and had a shop install and weld them in for $100. I originally contemplated SLP LM but this is my DD and I would have to live with it for the next "x" amount of years. Plus, I just couldn't pass up the deal.
I also just ordered my Steeda CAI/SCT combo from Brenspeed. I don't get 93 here in CA so I ordered my custom tunes for 87, 91 & 100 octane. There is a gas station about 10 miles from where I live that sells Torco 100 unleaded right out of the pump. Funny...I can get 100 fairly easily but not 93. Anyways, Brenspeed indicated that there isn't much to gain between 93 & 100.
But thanks to everyone who have posts on this forum about their Brenspeed tunes. It made a big difference in my decision making in regards on what to order. Before I searched through the threads, I considered a "canned" tune.

Force of habit. Every exhaust I've ever had on any vehicle was welded in to prevent leaks. Since the mufflers have little to no bearing on performance and doesn't affect smog, I don't plan on swapping them out...ever. The only thing I plan on swapping out is the h for an x pipe. Other than that, the cats will never change. I had a coworker run into issues with smog with aftermarket cats. I don't want the same problems.

Yeah, but it wasn't lack of foresight, but just the opposite. I'm used wrenching on old school stuff so I am a few light years behind what happening in the performance market today. I guess clamp technology must've improved over the last few years. Point taken. I was used to having everything welded. So I over thought it in this case. I was also looking at my total investment of $280 for a set of axle backs that normally cost over $500, so I think I still made out here.
But swapping axlebacks next year while I have a set that will probably last the life of the car? Now that seems like a waste of money considering what the cost of a new axle back set up would cost.

What he means is that normally most of us will go through a few sets of axle backs untill we find the one the is perfect for each of us. Why do you think that person was selling them on craigslist in the first place? Use the clamps that are on it now and you won't have a leak, unless you forget to bolt them down.

Sorry guys. I'm not trying to be combative. But you can't confuse the "waste of money" comment for trying out different axle backs. It's one thing to say that since they're welded on, you lose flexibility in swapping out axle backs in the future versus saying that you "wasted money" having them welded on but you would spend more money on axle backs that you don't need. It just doesn't make sense to me. If I took your comment the wrong way, then I apologize.
Again, not trying to argue. I agree that I did sacrifice the flexibility, but I'm not like you guys where I plan on swapping axle backs periodically. This is my DD and once I make the mods, I don't want to have to change them again. I have enough other projects to do that with. It's another reason why I am focusing on smog legal parts. It's a difference of philosophy. I don't disagree with yours. If you want to try out different exhausts, that's fine. But I don't feel the same way. I think I'll be able to live the one set. On all my previous cars, I've had Flowmasters and never swapped them out (3 different cars).
As for LM's. I strongly considered those. I like the sound. I'm 36 this year. At 26, it would've been a no-brainer. But I've also had loud cars in the past and to be honest, the older I get, the more I think to myself that I just don't want that in a daily driver anymore.
