Canned Tune...Worth it or not?

Canned Tune...Worth it or not?
This poll is for those of you that have installed a tune from a Predator, etc, just the way they sell them in the magazines or online. And preferably the car was near stock at the time. No custom tunes, please. I think many of us would like to know what others think of these tuners before we lay out the long green.

I guess that tells the tale then. Only 6 response to the canned tune question. I think most are modifying the canned tune afterall. It is great to get the engine up and running after an install, but getting it dialed in (especially the A/F) seems to be the way to go for most of us.

RE: Canned Tune...Worth it or not?
If you don't have a dyno shop near you, the canned tunes are not a bad choice. BUT....if you have a dyno shop you can get in to I highly recommend you doing so. Only thing to keep in mind is if you purchase a tuner ( Diablo or SCT either one ) just make sure you go to a shop that supports your tuner. Two reasons. First, that way you can get a copy of your tune for backup purposes in case you ever go back to stock. You will have your custom tune available to put back on the car. Second, if you own one tuner and go to a different support center, you most likely will be shocked when you find out you have to buy one of thier tuners for them to put the tune on your car.
Baseline dyno was 263/284
When I was running a Steeda CAI only, canned tune was 284/304.
When I added the C&L intake tube, same canned tune ( minor adjustments via handset ) was 287/306
Custom tune done by a dyno shop, I am now at 299/312.

Hawgman,
Nice increases over the canned, manual to the dyno tune. Was the increase due mainly to A/F. timing... both?

I found a significant difference with a Diablo, especially with the stock Throttle-By-Wire. I'd recommend it if you don't have a dyno nearby as the Diablos are quite customiZeable. ((Blah! My Z key wont work if I don't hit Shift. =p))
