Based on the amount of responses in here, does anyone know if this is normal to the drivetrain?

I have 9,000 miles, I don't think I'm hearing anything, if you have to have radio off to hear then I may have , my radio stays on all the time, now there is a plastic cover across bottom you have to remove for oil changes, could that be rattling for you, mines tight cause i just got under to convert to mobile 1.

"Mustangs and Camaros all have wide tolerances that cause drive train slop when rowing the gears. Once you get into the next gear everything tightens up in that direction and shifts are normal. But as soon as you shift out of order or start shifting in the other direction you get the clunking again as everything lines up the other way. Nature of the beasts. The ones that do not, have better tolerances. Consider yourself lucky in that case. These are not BMWs after all. I've owned two late model Camaros ('95 and '98) and two late model Mustangs ('03 Mach 1 and '06 GT) and they were all the same. It's normal. Ditto for the transmission rattles. Come up through the shifter as a vibration. If you want to hear a real noise, try an after-market shifter. I've done it twice and both times had them removed. Don't learn I guess."

Hi Nautilus.

This was my reply to a similar question on a Camaro forum.
Some noise and clunks are inevitable and considered normal.

For the poster who asked about reverse gear: try selecting one of the forward synchromeshed gears before selecting reverse.

Cheers.

I would make sure the noise or vibration was not part of the normal sounds that eminate from these cars before I would insist on a new transmission.

They might just screw up the repair and things could be worse than before.
Then you'd be really pissed. Try other members' or dealership's cars to compare first. A low whine in second, in my experience, is pretty normal.

Cheers.

I asked about this when I got my '09 back in May... was told that it was normal...I'll see if I can dig up the post.
