Yeah going with Brenspeed is a better idea. For one, you know you'll get the RIGHT cam for sure this time and two, that used price is way too high anyway.

I would buy them used for $500... But that's MAX!!!

For $300 bucks a garden hose and screwdriver sounds a ton better. And yes, i'd imagine that's the way most shops do it. It's faster. There are claims of 2-3 hour installs that way.

my cam jobs usually take 2-3 days.

day 1 is teardown
day 2 is cam swap
day 3 is button it all up.

this is why i'm not a mechanic, but get to
play with computers most of the day.

I don't see how it takes several extra hours as some imply to take the followers off. It may be a tight fit at times but there's only three per side and it's not a complicated thing.

My Comp NSR Stage 2 Cams (not Thumpers) cost me $450ish for install (cant remember exact total but that is close), and $645 for the cams. Installed at and purchased from Brenspeed for a little under $1100. Where as the Comp VSR Stage 2 cams would have cost me around $1000 for the cams, springs and retainers. Then at least a couple hundred more than the NSR cost me for install. So around $1500-$2000 to purchase the cams and for a shop to install the VSR cams. I only went with the NSR cams, because in a couple years when my car is paid off i will be pulling out this motor and putting in a stroker motor with some ported and polished heads with custom ground Comp SPR stage 3 cams for a supercharger. So in my mind there was no need to go all out at this time with the cams when all i was looking for was a little more power and better sound.
