Default Canned tune vs custom dyno tune

Hi Guys, I was just reading another thread where someone mentionned that a canned tune doesn't stack up to a custom dyno tune, specificaly for CAI. I have a Steeda CAI with DiabloSport tune on my 08 GT/CS. Would a custom dyno tune make a big difference?

I think what they mean is a canned tune, meaning one that comes with the tuner if you bought it from, say AM, is no comparison to an email tune through a company like Bamachips, Brenspeed, Tillman, or VMP. You might gain a little more from a custom dyno tune, but it is not worth it if all you have done is an intake.

Would a custom Dyno tune ever be better then the Bamas and Brenspeeds?

IMO custom tune would be slightly better than an email tune from VMP, Bama, Breenspeed, but if are only lightly modded, then it's not $250-300 better. With light mods, stick with an email tune.

esp if you have FI....custom dyno tuning is a plus but for many systems not necessary....the tune that the FI company gives is rich and safe.

N/A I would not get a custom dyno tune for just a CAI...any of the canned tunes spec to your car are good like some of the examples mentioned above....

+1 on what mygt500 said. Consider a canned tune (i.e., AM, SCT, Diablo) as inferior to a custom tune (i.e., Bama, Brenspeed, Tillman) and those as inferior to a dyno tune. If you're not FI, a dyno tune MIGHT gain you a few RWHP but, as stated, it's not worth the extra money if you're not at the track. I've heard where some dyno tunes barely did better than the custom tune and others that gained a few ponies.

Unhappy I wish I had stayed with the canned tune!

FYI I got maybe 40 more HP from a custom tune...
At first I thought I could afford it, but now that my rod just punched a hole in my block, I am thinking otherwise.
Happened today, ran a custom tune for about 6 months & had trouble starting while cold & she pinged while the engine was cold
(I just wouldn't get on her when cold)
Before you go & say, ****ty tuner... This was a guy with a very good reputation here in Phoenix, AZ.
Point is, I should have left her alone with the KB tune which ran fine. My car was not putting out the advertised HP & that's why I thought a tune would fix the problem. Boy was I wrong!

or a very respected local shop install thier kit with a dyno tune.. and i dont know which to go with

just put a kenne bell in with there tune , 9 psi intercooled . on the dyno yesterday for the first time 408.6hp , 456 ft-lbs torque. i didnt think it would make the numbers they claimed but it was even better, there numbers were 405hp 427 torque.its cold in florida now so i am sure that helped, but i am happy with the kenne bell tune.
