Default Familiar with E85?

I have an intresting question for the lot of you. You all may not be familiar with a fuel called E85. It's mainly in the in midwest and that's why gas is cheaper here. The Ethanoyl additive is an octane booster that rates at 10% atleast around here in the Dakotas. Surprisingly I also learned the stuff is made of freakin corn!! No wonder it's mainly around here. Now E85 as it's called is Ethanoyl mixed with gas at 85%. It runs 105 octane which is basically aviation fuel is something in which I know. That's crazy good as you'll probably agree and I've been told the stuff is crazy cheap too. Like a buck something compared to well I pay 2.25 around here for Plus at 10% Ethanoyl. Now on to my point. On the E85 site you can look at a list of vehicles the stuff will run. Well it looks as though it has little to no 2005 or 2006 vehicles listed yet. If someone would be kind enough to educate me on what it would take if a 2005 or 2006 can run this grade of fuel to switch it over to run this particular grade? Reflash to system? I've been reading you guys talking about the Predator and Xcal2 units. Would they play a paticular role?

I don't know if ethanol itself would harm anything in our engines or why only some engines can run this stuff. As far as 105 octane, yes you can use the Predator or X-cal to increase the timing to get the full benefit of 105 octane. Sounds like a win win as you could see some nice power from 105 octane and it's cheaper than 87 octane!

E85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gas, right?

Well, I don't think that our engines are made to run with this...and even if it worked, your mileage would be absolutely horrible.

Even 10% ethanol in gas will decrease fuel economy about 15-20%...I'm running Sunoco 94 octane which contains 10% ethanol in the gas and my mileage is significantly lower.

I continue to use it because they are the only ones here that sell 94 octane gas and I'm running an aggressive 94 octane tune. I've been thinking about going with the 91 octane tune just so I can put some non-ethanol gas in my car.

one other thing...Ethanol is extremely corrosive. "APPARENTLY", the gas companies say that 10% ethanol in gas is "SAFE"...but 85% ethanol would be extremely bad for your fuel lines, gaskets, seals etc. so I wouldn't put the E85 in my car.
