Delete Plates
We are installing a Vortech Supercharger on a 2005 Mustang Gt at the shop and you have to remove the upper intake to make changes to the cooling lines under the intake. I was checking out the stock plates that has the butterflys inside the intake and was wondering if anyone has heard of anyone removing those and using the stock plates. It would not take much to remove these and they do cover up a lot of space for better airflow. We are thinking about giving it a try but wanted to check with anyone else before we do the modification.

hey cobra, i think those are the motion control plates. the ones you get from steeda dont have the butterfly in them. after looking at mine i was thinking the same thing. but the instruction from steeda says you cant put the old one back on yourself because of some precise alignment issue. i have a friend who is a mechanic and is coming up this weekend to check it out and give me a hand. i havent seen anything in any magazine about modifiying the originals so i would be very careful. keep us posted if you do attempt it. it might be a way to save 250 bucks and pick up some throttle response.

those charge motion plates must be an emmision thing, cause they cannot have any performance increase by being restrictive, take em out your car will be fine. Think about it you are forcing more air into the motor you don't want restrictions

RE: Delete Plates
I talked to one of the tuners at Diablosport who is very well known in Mustang Racing and he advised me not to even do the Steeda Plates because of the tuning issue and the lack of power they actually made on the dyno. I told him we where going to remove the stock paltes and delete the butterfly's but he said it was not worth the trouble. Has anyone done just the plates and dynoed the car to see the difference? Let me know your thoughts and what you have seen as far as power goes.
