Making A Beast Of 4.6L Automatic
My ride is a 2006 GT 4,6L with the 5-speed automatic transmission. I had an urge for more torque throughout the speed range and especially at launch, and I found a really good way to go.
American Muscle has a combo sale for the Steeda cold air intake and an SCT SF3 tuner with a set of Bama tunes. After some iterations with the Bama tuners, I have made a wide open throttle beast out of my GT, but it's tame in traffic. This hole package cost me $638 plus a few bucks for shipping.
Here's a description of the performance in my GT with stock everything except the Steeda CAI and Bama 87 octane performance tune:
> Launch from a stop gives just the right amount of wheel spin without triggering the Traction Control System. 0 - 60 time is much much better;
> Transmission shifts under heavy throttle are hard with wheel chirp in all 5 speeds. Shift points take advantage of the new 6500 rpm red line. However, in traffic under normal throttle, the transmission shifts are stock;
> Should easily run 1/4 mile ETs in the 13 second range;
> Acceleration is fantastic from zero through 100 mph;
> Acceleration from 70 mph is much better;
> Gas mileage is better than the stock tune, so you can hot dog around and still get 19 mpg or better on the street;
> Exhaust sound is very much improved at heavy and wide open throttle. This exhaust sound with the stock system is as good as any I have heard coming out off the cat-back aftermarket systems;
> Engine breathing noise reminds me of the multiple carburetor systems we had in the 1960s. It is fantastic;
> Throttle sensitivity is much improved. No lag in response, and you need to develop a light touch in 1st gear in traffic;
> Red line increases to 6500 rpm;
> No "Lean Engine" check light. No check light at all;
> Free Bama tunes for life;
> Bama tuner folks are responsive to tweaking their tunes to your liking;
> American Muscle customer service is very good.
My GT is now faster than stock 2010 manual transmission cars.
If you have an automatic transmission in a 4.6L GT, ask for Bob Bidonde's tunes for 87S, 87P and 91P. The "S" is for "Street," and the "P" is for "Performance." 87 and 91 are the octane requirements. You will not be disappointed!

You act as if this all new news... People have been doing this mod since the S197's came out in '05. I can't wait to see your write-up when you learn about other stuff like UDP's delete plates, aluminum DS, gears, electric water pump, weight loss...
If you want a beast, go FI.

The post reads like an advertisement more than a post. Perhaps I'm just used to the hundreds of poorly formatted posts I read a week lol.
Congrats on the upgrades. I certainly understand the joy of feeling as if your car was reborn somehow.

But I know the feeling.My s197 felt so slow compared to my LS1 its amazing with just a cai/tune & 4.10's can do to these cars.It really feels like a new car.
