Dunno what to say. A lot of junk comes out of China these days. Look at all the cheap garbage tools they churn out. Total cheap trash.

Does that mean these transmissions are dog****? I dunno. Maybe. After learning that it's Chinese made I can't help but be suspicious about it's QC.

The MT82 Getrag has always been made in China. Its evidently a pretty tough tranny. The Land Rover Defender guys dont seem to have much issue with them (The 5.0 has different gear ratios than the Turbo Diesel Defender).

I definitely dont have an issue with imported parts on American brands, I guess like Wiking i did a WTF when I read that. and if this trans is known for being pretty solid then its not as tragic as I thought it was going to be.... but damn! CHINA? Id have never thought an ENTIRE unit would be built there.

Lol and Lost Boyz, I definitely dont have an issue with Japanese parts/products (see my username for details). In fact, Japanese products have made me a nice living that last couple of years even after the economy turned to crap.

Japan > China

Just look at the wheels that come out of those countries.

I understand that. China manufactures damn near everything these days from really crappy products to some of the worlds best, but we aren't talking about a knock-off purse here. Its sad that we have lost so much manufacturing in this country, but I guess I failed to see the shock that it was made there.

Made in China and manufactured here in the gold ol' USA. Thats what American made means these days, thank corporate america for that. Oh and the Windsor engine is made in Windsor, Canada..... not Windsor, Michigan.

pretty sure the 05-09 tranny's were manufactured in Mexico, mine's ok so far. sooner or later sub-assembly parts are made outside the US no matter how "made in America" the car is.

really it's up to the original manufacturer and their design and quality control as to whether or not it matters where it was made. some companies can make good things from China, most obviously can't.

Nothing wrong with some stuff made in China, as long as you can supervise the factory it's made from, which is the case here.

Main two reasons is that labor is (still) cheap there and the tax code is almost nonexistent with no stupid Unions etc...
Big corporations save a bunch that way and it's not about to change favorably for that labor we lose due to @ssholes politicians we've been having for years now.
