are these difficult to install yourself--does the computer need to re-flashed after getting one installed?
i can't speak for the K&N specifically, but the C&L Intake was a breeze to install. i just followed the instructions and had a totally drama-free install in under 30 minutes.
you will have to reflash the chip after installing the intake. i purchased a package deal from brenspeed.com, so i used one of their SCT X2 tunes for the octane gas i'm running. it was all very straightforward. i've attached a pic.
this may be an ignorant question, but is this the same thing as a cold air intake
I think a lot of people are calling these "cold air intakes"...but real cold air intakes have the filters lower down to pick up colder ambient air. This kit is right in the engine bay...and the only thing protecting it from hot engine air is that heat shield around the filter.
It will give the dealership a reason to void the warranty if they want to be ******. Just take it off when going to the dealership to avoid issues, or find yourself a mod friendly dealership. The dealer is still getting paid for warranty repairs so it really shouldn't matter to them either way unless they want to be ****** about it.
