Default Need Help deciding new tire setup(Brand).

Well my stocker Pirelli Nero Zero (235/55/17's) are nearing the end of their lives. I wanna upgrade my rubber setup on my next setup rather than return to what I have now. I'm gonna keep my stock 17 inch Alumminum Alloy wheels so anything I throw on needs to fit them. I would like to upgrade tire width all around or atleast on the back. Anyone have any advice on good setups for the stock wheels?

I was in the same boat as you. I went with Nitto NT555's all the way around (255/50/17). They hook up a lot better than the Pirellis. You can get them for $157 each from americanmuscle.com. I got mine from a tire shop that matched the website's price. Remember thought, these are not going to last as long as the Pirellis. These tires are directional, so when you rotate them, you can only go from front to back on the same side without taking the tire off the rim.

I don't know if you would want to go any wider on stock rims. I know on the nitto web site you can look at all of the different tire sizes and see what size rims they suggest.

For your spedo, look at the revs per mile listed by the tire manufacturer and compare that to the stock tire. With the Nitto NT555 255/20/17, it puts your spedometer off by about .5 MPH. You can fix this if you have a hand held tuner. For me, since it was such a small change, I left it alone.

I ran Kumho Ecsta SPTs on my 2007 GT, and was always impressed with them for the money. I went a little wider than stock all the way around (255), so I could rotate them. You can see what the stance looked like in this thread I posted 100 years ago:

All the way around with 255/50-17's (tire height is nearly identical to the stock 235/55-17) would give you better overall handling. Going with different width tires front and rear without changing the width of the rims (a wider rim for the wider tire) can cause unwanted handling issues (I tried it and the handling was disconcerting). If you still want stock in the front and wider in the back go with a 255/50-17 outback. Good luck.

Ok, so the consensus is 255 width all the way around. I do have a SCT device if I need to re-calibrate my speedometer. Now the question is which tire for my stock rims?

There are a bunch of tires available in that size IIRC. I'd recommend going to TireRack.com and choosing based on the reviews, specs, and price you are willing to pay etc.
