How to change serpentine belt?
#11
You need a 1/2 inch ratchet,or 3/8 with 3/8-1/2 inch adapter, and a piece of pipe to slip over the handle of the ratchet.
If you don't have any tools, then you can always buy a 1/2 inch breaker bar from harbor freight. I'm sure tractor supply would have a cheap one also.

Make sure your tensioner is still working well. If the new belt is feeling anything but tight when you line everything up and put it back on, the tensioner is going. which can make a new belt trash in no time.

I know I am resurrecting an old thread here....
I changed out my serpentine belt with relative ease. Quick question....does the belt stretch over time? I notices that belt tensionor did not spring back as far as when the original belt was on it. Almost 20-30 degrees less I would guess. Seems like a lot to me.

It probably would stretch, right?
I dunno, but i got a new belt last summer.
Started it, & it sounded like a jet plane...
got a new belt,
& they didn't tighten the bolts enough,
& the bolts ripped the new belt to shreds.
morons.

That's the thing, I didn't have to take any bolts off. I just pushed the tensionor pulley down (I think that's its name) with a breaker bar and the belt slipped off. I did the same as I slipped the new one on. Done in 5-10 minutes.

They probably do stretch a little. They also wear on the rib side, which would make them sit a little deeper on all of the pulleys and require the tensioner to take up the resulting slack.
Otherwise it's like you said, a pretty simple job not involving the loosening of any fasteners.
