Default Supercharged 2008 GT - Oil Consumption

Hey guys, the past times I've changed the oil in my car I've noticed that I only get about 5 1/4 quarts out of the car. So over the course of 5k miles I'm burning about 3/4 a quart.

The car doesn't smoke at all that I've seen and it only has 35k miles on it. I've put about 13k miles on the car since the supercharge install about 11 months ago. So it seems as though it's dating back to about the time of the install. Will a supercharged motor burn/consume oil at a higher rate than a stock motor?

It seems to me that valve seals should be fine with a car less than 3 years old and less than 36k miles. Plus, like I mentioned earlier I haven't noticed any blue smoke.

I'm always use Mobil 1 5w-20 and the car is driving about 250 miles a week, mostly highway. But I do romp on it quite regularly.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

In 5k miles that consumption is considered normal by Ford's standards. Their spec actually allows up to 1qt of consumption in 3k miles. If the car is running well and you get no smoke through the exhaust, I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

Dyson, that seems like a fairly large amount of burnoff but if Ford says its within tolerances, then who am I to argue? :-) The only disconcerting part is that I don't recall having the issue before the blower install.

Bruce, no I don't have a catch can but it's next on my list and yes that volume is including what's in the filter.

If you get into the boost frequently, that's where it's going. Pull your intake and I'll bet your throttle body has a layer of oil.

Mine chews up oil pretty quick. I know I was surprised how much I was seeing in the catch can even when staying out of boost.

Make sure you get a good one.
Thanks again for all the responses guys, guess I'm going to have to get a catch can sooner rather than later. Do you just dump the oil that collects in the catch can back in?

BTW, I'm looking at getting the JLT oil separator.

I'm amazed at how much my catch can gathers. The amount of oil you're losing does not strike me as odd on a supercharged motor

You discard any oil that accumulates in the catch can. It's going to have a combination of oil vapor, water vapor and some fuel vapors.
