Default Auto trans and gearing change question...

Have an 07' GT/auto trans. Cuurent mods are BBK CAI/Predator tune and Pypes axle-backs. Looking at next mod as gearing change (probably 4:10s). Kinda a newbie at this, but I am pretty sure my tuner has the option of changing the speedo calibration showing the gear change. I am concerned about the auto trans shift points. Would the trans "know" when to shift based off of the speedo calibration change? Thanks for the replies.

Who's tunes are you running? Would that be the canned Diablo tune? Yes, your handheld can adjust for the gears but to do it right, I'd dump the Diablo tune and handheld and get the SCT with tunes from AM (Bama). When it comes to autos, they seem to hold the edge over Brenspeed (who also writes fantastic tunes) by adjusting for shift points a bit more precisely.

As far as 4.10's, a lot will have to do with what you intend to do with your car. As a DD, 4.10's can be a bit much especially if you do any highway beyond going 1 or 2 exits. What are your current gears?

Yes, I am currently running the canned Diablo tune. Got a great deal on a BBK CAI package with the tuner, 2nd hand. The car has the fact 3:31s installed. Probably 90% of my driving is around town with maybe one 250 mile highway trip a month. Think its a better idea to go with the 3:73s? Thanks for your input.

For the auto shift points, you need to have a tuner write you a custom tune. The handheld will not be able to change the shift points, only calibrate your speedo.

I would do yourself a favor and get a custom tune from Brenspeed or AM/Bama. It's definitely worth it.

I have 4.10 on my DD. I mostly do suburban driving and the shift points are going to be quick. If you do get stuck in stop and go traffic, you will be constantly up and down shifting which can get annoying on the ride. IF traffic is so tight where my get up and go is too much, I usually throw it into gear to help ease it. Anyhow I don't regret my 4.10 and I love em.

.. with the 4.10s in my auto, the hour and half trip out to the drag strip is fun @80mph and 3k rpm the entire friggin' way rofl

Lots of fun off the line and up to 120mph...

the tune should correct all of your shift points for you without issues.. just don't mess with the tune unless you know what you're doing.. you'll fugg things up bad..
