Default ABS and TCS OFF light on when starting car

Hey Guys,

When i started my car today my TCS OFF en ABS light (also the "slip light" went on when i was still in park.
I havent driven the car yet with the lights on. I cant turn the TCS on with the button.

Does anyone know what may have caused this?
The car has been exported to here (suriname), so i cant take it to the dealership since we dont have one.

Any input would be appreciated

I'm taking a guess that it's a brake issue. If the OM doesn't indicate what situation will cause those lights, then try lookin here: http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=1

Did you have a wheel bearing recently replaced. Because ABS sensor is connected to that. If so, sometimes the ABS sensor is not installed back properly when the bearing is replaced which causes that light to go on. Proper fix is to re-install it properly. Easy fix is to put a small piece of electrical tape on the light.

I would look for dirt and debris between the the ABS exciter rings and the magnetic pick up before you go spending any money. Suriname sounds like a place with a few dirt roads.

Okay, i'll check the above mentioned.

BTW, the lights come on when i start the car not when i drive the car.
Also, yes wheels bearings have been replaced around 5 months ago.

@Sparta, you're correct, lots of dirt roads, though i usually avoid them, it sometimes is inevitable.

Try resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery for about 20 min and see if the lights go away or come back.

Another thing that I have a guess about: are you using a non-stock tune?

If the battery trick does not work, try returning the stock tune back into the car. The ECU could be crossing wires because the coding strategy or whatever could be messing with the dash displays.
If it clears the TCS issue, the tune might be the culprit.
I am not a tuner, so I stress that this is only a guess of mine. I have no factual knowledge of whether a tune can even mess with TCS and/or AdvanceTrac

But if it is found that this is caused of the tune, try contacting the tuner to see if they can rewrite it.

@ Jim5.0, yes i am using a tune from brenspeed, however i've had it on the car for almost 2 years now, i dont think it would suddenly cause these problems, i will give it a shot though.

Thanks for the input.

I disconnected the battery for 20min, but nothing changed.
Afterwards, i returned my tune to stock, i wanted to avoid doing this because i was afraid the check engine light would come on because of the catless exhaust and headers.

However, when it was stock everything seemed normal, besides the car reacting annoyingly slow ofcourse. The lights were off, i drove her with the stock tune for half an hour, when i got back home, i uploaded by 87 tune again. And the lights were still off..

So far it's been just 2 days but i hope it stays this way. While i'm glad the problem is gone, it does bother me that the lights suddenly came on in the first place.

Yeah. That's weird. I also had my brenspeed tune for over two years and never had any lights coming on, so I doubt is the tune, but I'm glad it reset back to normal.
