Default Gears

Checked around and can't seem to find all the information i want. I'm thinking about upgrading the gears to 4.10 or 3.73's, I see a lot of people go 4.10s but i also see a lot go 3.73s. I know one is for a quicker launch etc, but I'm not sure which is which. Also, what is the factory gears 3.31? What all differences would i be looking at?

I'm a newbie too, but I'll try to repeat some of what I've read. First, what gears you have now depends on what year your car is and if it's a manual or auto. The 05-06 manuals had 3.55's, 07 up had 3.31's. Not sure on the auto's, but I think all had 3.31's. Most people will say to go for the 4.10's unless you do a lot of highway driving. The 4.10's will make your car run around 2400 rpm's at around 70 mph. The general consensus seems to be that 4.10's are the best bang for the buck.

I'm getting 4.10s installed tomorrow. I'll let you know my impression as soon as I get it back1

If you search the threads, 410's is definitely the way to go. Just about every single person who has upgraded to 410's has raved about it.

I just ordered my FRPP 410's from AM along with an SCT tuner. They are having their memorial day sale right now....even got my forum discount on top of it. Can hardly wait!

Generally it was 3:31 for auto and 3:55 for manual stock. There should be a sticker on the differential cover telling you what the gear ratio is, if it's stock .

Most people say that with 3:55 stock, you will feel the bigger difference with the 4:10. If you have 3:31, you can feel the difference going to 3:73. It all depends on your driving style, commuting and distance (if it's a daily driver). I use 4:10's but I don't have to travel far. MPG drop is minimal but with the gas prices these days..

I just did 373 on my 07 manual that had 331. Noticeable difference, not a lot, but noticeable. Tires spin too easy now. I did 373s for two reason. 20 miles on the highway a day and putting on a blower at the end of this year. I think the future of your car should dictate which you go with.

If you go to the track and have DR I would say either will help. Launching on the street, good luck. Taking off slow and punching it you can def tell a difference in 1st gear.

Gas mileage 20.1 to 19.2 since install 3500 miles ago.
