Default Diablo Tuners?

Had JPC Racing in Maryland put a CAI on the car a couple of years ago and they sold me a Diablo tuner with it. Are those things any good? Is there a better one or does it really matter? I don't see many posts talking about these tuners.

It all depends on who writes tunes to support that platform. lately, there doesn't seem to be that many tuners that support the Diablo, although I think AM/Bama may.

The handheld is just the hardware to handle the software.

So, if I was to switch to a more popular tuner like an SCT which CAI and tune should I run? For that matter, does the brand of CAI really matter? Currently running a K&N but also have a JLT hanging around that I could use.

The handheld tuner isn't important other folks that support it. What's important is WHO writes the tune. Bama/AM, Brenspeed write great tunes. The tune is about 80% of the power gainer of the CAI & tune combo.

Hardware wise it's good except for the pc interface...it's about $50 for the serial to usb cable and power cable.

IMO a canned tune is a canned tune...the only true custom tune is a dyno tune. The diablo/sct canned tunes will be less aggressive than say a bama/brenspeed tune but they're both canned tunes.

I can't speak for Mustangs but in the Dodge world everyone loves the diablo's.

Canned tunes come from SCT with the SCT tuner or from Diablo with the Diablo tuner. Canned tunes will run on most any S197 with the same size engine. Then there are CUSTOM tunes from AM/Bama, Brenspeed, Evolution, Tilman and others. These are usually more aggressive, written specifically for your engine and are a large improvement over a canned tune. Dyno tunes will "fine-tune" (no pun intended) and squeeze more power than a custom tunes in most instances. Dyno tunes are best if you track or race but for the DD, a custom tune from a reputable tuner is about all you need.
