Default car show judging question

I started entering my car to be judged in shows. I was planning on having the radiator cover and plenum cover painted. Would that changed my class from stock to modified? Or is that only major modifications?

Judging REALLY all depends on the show and level of judging that they do. That being said, no that wouldn't be generally enough to change classes.

I've run in numerous shows with my 5.0 and have tons of trophies and awards to boot, but with that said it depends on the show. I've never been in a stock class as I'm usually stuck in wild or radical classes but you can generally negotiate your class with the judge or entree person. Now why would you wanna do that you might ask...simple...some judges will try to put your car in too high of a class which means you won't stand a chance at placing.

Generally speaking stock classes are reserved for cars with minimal to a medium level of mods, or being highly specified in one area. Example, a car with a killer stereo but little else will be in a stock class. However with that said cars that have heavy exterior mods and little to no sound or engine mods may either be mild or wild class.

Generally speaking if you have a couple exterior mods, a couple performance mods, a few dress up engine mods, and a few dress up interior mods. You will qualify for the mild/wild classes (depends on the show and how many classes they have).

Here is an example:

Stock class:
Cold Air Intake
Tuner
Exhaust
Chin Spoiler
Basic Aftermarket Stereo Components
Billit Door Lock Pins
Billit Coat Hangers
Chrome Oil Cap Cover

Mild/Wild Classes
All the above and:

Side Scoops
Hood Scoop
New Wing
Aftermarket Rims
Color Matched Vacuum Hoses
Moderate Underhood Chrome Pieces
Moderate Interior Dress Up
More Advanced Stereo
Aftermarket Floor Mats

Radical Class
All the above

Supercharger or other FI or extreme engine work
External Engine Brackets Chrome Matched or Painted
Aftermarket Seat Cover Work
Full Body Kit
Full Repaint

Yeah it is a long list, but the few times I do get to go to shows I always try to negotiate myself into the lowest class possible so that I have a better chance of standing out. Around here radical or extreme class Mustangs have damn near anything and everything done to them, and I'm not saying it all looks good either, but the judges around here seem to favor a lot of flare, unless it's a military show with older judges that don't like all that nonsense.
