Help. ECM wont read key.
The day before yesterday I went to back my '07 out of the garage so that I could put my other car in to change fluids and brakes.
Hadn't driven it in a couple of weeks and the battery was dead. Not surprising since it's original to the car. So I jumped it and it started just fine. Swapped places and put the Mustang in the driveway and let it sit there at idle for about 30 min to give the battery a bit of a recharge.
When I had finished, I turned off the Mustang. Since I have a third vehicle that needed time in the garage the next day I left the Mustang to sit where I parked it in the driveway. Before I left it. I turned off the ignition and started the car again to make sure the battery took the charge. It did as it started just fine.
Fast forward to this AM. I went out to put the Mustang back in the garage. Put the key in the door lock and the alarm went off. The car wont start either.
I think there must be something wrong with the ecm not reading the key properly. Not quite sure how to proceed from here.
Any suggestions before I have it towed to the dealer?
Thanks.
BTW have only one key here. The other and the fob remote is at my home 1500 m from here.

If you locked it with your key fob after you parked it, and then tried to unlock it with your key, that would set off the alarm.
Dumb I know but I had same issue when I dropped off my car to be worked on, locked it with my fob as I walked away and gave them a spare key. When they went to move it in, set off the alarm and wouldn't open til I arrived back with the fob to unlock it.
Long as the battery isn't dead, unlock it with your fob and should fire right up.

Thanks but the key fob is with the other key. Even with a new battery in the fob. I don't think it will reach quite the 1500 mi.
The lock opens just fine and all the lights on the dash come on when the key is inserted and turned. Battery indicator says I've plenty of juice.

What 157db said about the battery. Idling for 30 minutes or even DRIVING at highway speeds for 30 minutes isn't enough to ensure enough power for a later start. Have the battery load tested to be sure. Let us know what you find.
