Machining just means having a machine shop turn the flywheel so that it's smooth again.

You think using the stock flywheel would be good?
This flywheel in newtakeoff sounds like a good deal. I just dont want to mess anything up.

Reusing the stock flywheel is fine as long as it is in good condition and you get it turned. Just be sure the clutch you use is compatible with the stock flywheel. Most are, but a few aren't.

How you know if a clutch is compatible with a flywheel? I got exedy clutch and spec flywheel and its causing clutch drag and high rpm lookout. I just now put a spacer behind the slave cylinder and it made the shifts smoother, still got lookout... =/

First, call Paul or Lee at McLeod 1-714-630-2764

Buy a stock weight flywheel. Anything lighter is annoying to use in traffic.

I have a McLeod billet aluminum flywheel and RST Dual Disc that I upgraded to ceramic discs (little better quality supplier than Mcleod) and it is a nightmare in traffic, but handles 600+ rwhp with no issues.

I would match the flywheel to the clutch maker, they can be around an 1/8" off on disc design.

Exedy is pretty decent quality as well.

Take whatever your hp goals are and exceed them by 20% with your clutch and flywheel choice.

And change your hydraulic throwout bearing.

exedy doesnt COME with the TOB, it comes with a pilot bearing. I just got an Exedy 500 clutch set. I did however buy the higher upgraded version of exedy's TOB vs a factory replacement.

Ok, can I just change the flywheel and keep the clutch so the brands match, or is it wise to just change both clutch and flywheel? the clutch and flywheel are still "new", changed them both a few months ago.

It is amazing how many clutches out of the box even with matched parts need to be shimmed.

I just suggested matching because the inside of the flywheel is sometimes smaller than the inside of the clutch disc...
