Default Annoying 1-4th forced shift on 2012 GT manual

Anyone know of a fix for this? Got my 2012 GT about 2 months ago and this feature is about the only real dislike i have with the car. It always seems to happen at a time when i dont want it interfering. I have read that some of the custom tunes will remove this feature but was wondering if there might be a simpler fix. Any help is appreciated.

Simply unplug the harness from the top rear corner of the transmission. I did this with less that 1000 miles on my car and have had NO problems of check engine lights since. I have just turned 12,000 miles. No problems from Ford when they serviced my tranny for the fluid change either.

Such a simple thing to do......

I get around it by moving the shifter to the center position for about a half second before I shift into second. Works every time and doesn't take that long to get used to. You can also go right into third. The car has plenty of torque for that.

If you don't want to tune and potentially void the warranty you can still use a sct tuner to disable the feature. Possibly find someone on the forum nearby with one and give them a shout. Next time do a search there are quite a few threads that cover this already.

You stumbled on the annoying feature built into our cars called Skipshift. I call it SkipS***.

I don't know about anyone else, but my SkipS*** actually quit giving me lockouts after awhile. I am assuming that the ECU/PCM adaptive learning function learned not to give any forced lockout even though the tach message board lit up with the SkipS*** message.

I think my car did this as well after a while. I can go to any gears, including 2rd & 3rd gear, while the shift 1+4 is illuminated. My car was built in Oct this year.

I have experienced that a few times as well. I got mine Oct 31 and it was custom ordered so I would guess it was built mid October. I generally shift at 2000 to 2500 rpm range and am impressed with the 18.5mpg average so far. I am always getting caught by the feature and it seems to force that shift at some bad times in the morning work traffic. Can't wait to get this resolved and move on to a few simple performance mods.
