Default Between a new '13 and a leftover '12 GT...need input on price!!!

So I have been car shopping for a few months (technically the last 5 years...been wanting a new car for a LONG time and am finally ready to get one!)

My short list was a leftover '12 GT, the new '13 gt (both base model 6mt with 3.73 and if I got the '13 it would have the recaro's).

I also still really like the 2011/2012 WRX because its just SO damn functional and still quick (just not 5.0 quick!).

I emailed a bunch of local dealers (chicago suburbs) about 5 months ago and all were giving me quotes on a 2012 black 6mt base model with 3.73 (but it had the california emissions package).

I started emailing all the same dealers again to get an updated price now that there is a 3000 rebate on the '12 GT's. Ironically the first response was from the same dealer mentioned above offering the SAME CAR! Wow...times are tough!

His original best offer 5 months ago was 29451 OTD (after T/T/L) including the current at-the-time 1500 rebate. Today he offered the same car for 27941. Including the extra 1500 worth of rebates he is only discounting the car another 100 bucks off. This does not seem right for a car that has probably been on a dealer lot for 6-9+ months now (not to mention I would have to see how many horrible test drive miles are on it )

I also have a request in for a brochure so im hoping to subtract another 750 off my lowest price. I was also wondering if I can add other rebates on top of the 3000 cash and the 750? Because I graduated college 2.5 year ago (500 possible rebate if I am in the timeframe). Also there is the First time buyer if you use Ford credit worth 500, as well as the retail trade allowance for current ford owners (if I decide to trade my focus SVT worth 1,000).

Does anyone know about the california emissions? I am curious as to why a CA emission car ended up in N.IL ???? Also curious as to why it never sold (maybe because of the emissions kit?) Can the emissions equipment be removed easily? I am planning on tuning almost immediately if that matters (if the emissions equipment has to be tuned out?)

I love the '13 GT, but for a possible savings of 4-6k I can deal with the '12 lol. How much cheaper should I expect?

***Edit*** Just as an FYI, True car on this build is 25,808, plus my local tax of 8% and 150 for title/license that puts me at 28056 after rebate (so 100 bucks more than what this dealer is offering)

I saw a 2012 GT california special parked next to a GT500 - this let me see the two front ends that I like the most side by side. I was sold on the 2012 at that point. bought my gt premium with brembos and 3.73s, and I've ordered the california special lower valance. my decision was based more on what I liked more, rather then price.

I've heard rebates are up to 3000$ for the 2012s. I bought mine in December and the rebates were 1500$. They are going to offer great deals on the 2012, so if ya like the 2012.. pick one up soon!

if this helps at all: I owned a 2011 WRX that I traded in for the stang. practical and fun, but just not ballsy enough, gotta have my v8. : ). only had that car for 1 year, it just felt cheaply built.. but damn it was fun in the snow.

Don't let your friends slap you on the forehead with words "should have had a v8" coming out of their mouths! Get the mustang! I would stay away from the same car from 6-9 months ago, but sometimes you never know, maybe no one has even drove the thing....

If you Plan to resell, I would get the 2012 just for the free year of milage that won't be on your ticker when you go to sell it.

if i were in your position, i'd get the 2013...fresh new car, don't have to worry about other people driving it

but if savings and price is your main concern, go with the 2012...that number you were quoted is very attractive, and if you can get all those other rebates, that would be great

but whichever you choose, you won't be dissappointed...good luck

Go to www.zag.com and you will get $500 below invoice.

The $3000 rebate is compatible with either the $750 private cash or $500 student, but not both. So, it makes more sense for you to go with the $3000 + $750.

The 2012 has $891 in holdback. If they really want to sell the vehicle they will sell it close to the holdback amount. Knowing they will make money on dealer docs, dealer add ons, and warranties.

You want to negotiate the vehicle price not the OTD because different dealers have different dealer docs and add ons.

Zag is the same as true car and overstock. This guy is offering a little over 100 below that. He said its 300 below invoice, but regardless it still seems like a good deal.

I read on another thread that someone just ordered a brand new 2012 on saturday.....??? I thought the '12 order banks closed a few weeks ago?

If I could order the car I want that would be Ideal. I would not want to be driving my new mustang in this crap weather anyway! I am kind of planning on garaging the stang in the winter and keeping my svt focus for winter duty so it would be a shame to pick up a vehicle that has been on a dealer lot for 5-9 months in the snow and salt and potentially have a couple hundred test drive miles on it.

So here is the scoop...that cali emissions car is actually a Saleen so thats out!

There are three cars available in my area that are close to my criteria.

Car A: 2012 Black GT Base, sticker 30,505 (3.31 gears). It was built Dec 13 and only has 7 miles on it (I like!). It is 80 miles away from me.

Car B: 2012 Black GT Base, sticker 30,105 (3.31 gears) I guess Ford increased the price in October on the GT's thats why this car is 400 cheaper. It was build in August and has 46 miles on it (170 miles away). I was offered this car for 27,460 completely out the door (after 2100 tax and 150 for lic/title). With my brochure discount that would be 27,610.

Car C: 2012 Black GT Base with 3.73 gears, sticker 30,900. This car was built in december as well and only has 27 miles on it. It is, however, 280 miles away so its going to cost a little money to get it here. My OTD on this car is 28,267 (so 27,517 after the 750 brochure discount).

I think I can get 200 or so off each of the above cars from another dealer. One dealer said the above prices are IT...they sell for 300 under invoice and no more. The other dealer I think might squeeze a couple hundred but thats probably it.

I do like the fact the 2013 cars have HID, Sync and leather wrapped wheel standard along with the new tails/wheels and hood. The only problem is a 2013 with 3.73 I am guesstimating will sticker at 31,500 and I am assuming there will be NO rebates from the get go. This means I would probably be paying about 31,000 OTD (so 3,000-4,000 more than these 2012's). I just dont think I can justify that expense for what it offers me...

If I do go with the 2012 and choose the 3.31 car (its 700 cheaper) I would be looking at roughly 700 bucks to get the 3.73's installed myself but that is an option.

If I choose 2013 I would probably splurge for the recaro's (500 cloth/1,000 leather). Even without the recaro's that extra 3,000 in initial cost comes out to be about 55 bucks a month. I am not sure the 55 a month is A: Worth the options it gives me and B: Not sure if it will help that much with eventual resale?

Depending on what the 2015 looks like I would consider upgrading if I am in a financial position to do so, so the 2012 would make it easier to change vehicles due to less investment initially. On the flip side it might be harder to sell because people might want the 2013 instead???

Opinions????
