I like both but it depends on the car. I like the auto in my old Mopar. But I only considered 5 speed cars when looking for my current 2005 - 2009 GT coupe. But I wouldn't mind adding a 2005 - 2009 convertible with an auto to the collection.

Seems too be the ongoing theme, here. I made the deposit ona 06 gt with a auto, Faster shifts are where it's at. My shop teacher way back in the 80's (and he was right) , said. ''There is noway, no way a human can manually shift quicker than a automatic transmission''. And the selling point above all ,for me, was the ability too line lock the car at staging. Try doing that with a standard. But I'm clearly in the minority here. Let the debate continue.

You get some more "serious" Strip Guys in here and the tides would turn in your favor. "Automatics win races, 6-speeds impress high school kids." Previously, the auto would lag out of the gate (99-04 N/A with stock gears). Even the s197's auto's had some of the same issues. It just isnt fun driving auto > sticks when the transmission is such. Plus you were losing a few ponies in power difference. Now take the 11 & newer.... the auto tranny is firmed up nicely out of the factory and power is neck n neck with it's 6spd counter part. There's no question (outside of competing in AX & RR events) that I would pick a 6spd over the auto for the new mustangs 5.0 mustangs.

Yeah, i have too agree with ya there, But I'm kinda biased, I drive a manual for a living.....so the ride home for me, will be a welcome change, That said, manuals are sought after more than a an auto, Just the opposite when buying new. Ironic isn't it.

I'd be a rich man if I had a nickel for every time this was brought up...

You ride an auto. You DRIVE a manual.

That being said, I bought my Stang as a toy so it was manual or nothing. If I had a daily commute in traffic and the Stang was my DD, it would be an auto. But manual is WAY more fun.

Manual all the way. I didn't even consider an auto when I purchased my car. I know autos are faster at the strip, but I prefer holding a gear through turns and having more control of what gear I will be in and when.
