Brembo vs non brembo stoping distance
#11
For the great majority of mustang owners here on this site, a pad change will cure any brake fade or stopping problems. The OEM pads faded everytime I made a pass at the strip, causing vibration and hot spots on the from rotors. Changing pads and replacing the damaged front rotors cured my issue and I can now stop from 130+ mph with no brake fade. I still have the regular fluid and I am not sure how I would benifit from changing. I don't road race, I don't drive like an asz hat, so I will never get my fluid to boil.
But, back to the topic. I wonder if there is a direct comparison or a test that has already been done.

Dot 3 has a wet boiling point of 284F. DOT 5.1 has a wet boiling point of 374F. A big difference for 7 bucks a liter. More efficient brake cooling comes from vented rotors, like Sam Strano sells. Additional cooling can come from ventilating the brakes with the Boss 302 hoses and replacement brake shields $219.00 at LMR. Cost for Sam Stranos rotors, ss lines brembo DOT 5.1 brake fluid and HPS pads is $700.00. Cost for the Brembo system up front, varies from $1400.00 for the GT500 black brembos to $3000.00 + for the after market red brembos and slotted one piece rotors. Going the way I propose saves from $500.00 to $2100.00, which could be used on good tires and wheels. Even if you do not road race, you will be amazed at the stopping ability of this combination.
