Why does Borla exhaust stick out so far?

It's probably most people making them stick out so the "Borla" lettering on the muffler tip can be seen.
I couldn't stick mine out too much since then the muffler hanger would contact the inside of the rear bumper, and rattle.

How far are you talking? If you have a '10 and installed an exhaust for an '05-'09, then it'll stick out a bit farther than normal. My Borla/FRPP Stingers (bouhgt in '07) stick out about 1" from the top of the cutout.

OP, how far do yours stick out?

Depends also how they are installed, if the midpipe is all the way in against the H or X, and if the mufflers are all the way on the midpipes where they connect near the axle.
Position and distance-sticking-out are, to some extent, 'adjustable' by changing the location and orientation of the mid pipe to the x/h. If you need a little more room, to push in the mufflers a little, you could trim off the front end of the midpipe (where it connects to the x or h), but that's a last resort.
