is putting a 650 rwhp engine in a 2006 GT just pointless?

At 550rwhp driving on the street has become a little challenge, things like pulling out in traffic, or passing someone, tires spin with just a touch on the gas pedal even getting on the freeway in 3rd.

as for the power level you are looking for, it will be hard to reach IMO at 15psi, and your going to have to upgrade a number of things. Fuel system, injectors, intercooler setup, clutch, rearend..... and a few other items I am probably forgetting about.

My setup is similiar to what you mentioned except I am only running 11psi with a Saleen SC, and the blower is pretty much maxed out at 12psi because of heat soak, I had an ice box installed in the trunk that holds 5gls of water plus 20lbs of ice to keep the inlet temps down at the track. If you are not going to track the car you won't need an ice box, but you should upgrade your res to hold additional fluid.

What do you do to the T3650? Just more splines?

Does the rear just need axle tube strenghting?

If it's a manual, I'd run a twin disc clutch and a T-56 Magnum, and for the rear end just upgrade it to higher quality axles, better diff, and you can brace the 8.8 if you want...

Of course, UPR Products suspension is mandatory.

Seriously though, our 701rwhp car on the street acted like it wanted to yank the front tires on 18" drag radials. I was stunned.

If you want a 650rwhp car, I don't think it's pointless to spend $10k on what you have. That's my plan.

I have a hard time seeing the logic in spending $35-65k (used-new) on a Shelby to save $10k. As much as I would love to have a '13 Shelby, $10-12k spent on what I already have is A LOT easier for me swallow than the $65k price tag (and associated financing) of a new car.

A Mcleod RST and 650 is very fun. Don't knock it til you try it.

I plant 565 rwhp daily.

Do it! Build the 06. You'll enjoy it more having gotten into it. Im all for buying power, but there is a certain appreciation gleamed from building it. I run the B302 btw and love it so far. About 6000 happy miles so far. No major abuse but the occasional redline flogging.

I have my street tune set for a little over 500 hp and it is perfectly manageable. I have an auto with turbos so it's a little easier to drive that a TS with a manual. Even at this HP level, if I don't have my DR's on the car, I can turn the tires into smoke and get the car out of shape very quickly if I'm horsing around. I drive with DR's on the rear of the car in the warm months and then it is easy to get on it and have it still hook. Much over 500 and even the DR's wont hold on the street. With my setup I could increase the HP very easily, if I wanted but I just don't see any reason to have more than about 500 hp for street use.

I am going to look into the price of the tranny and rear-end upgrades first. I am sure the 8.8 with an upgraded diff and axles will be enough. I am little foggier on the tranny. I would think a stock tranny with an upgraded input shaft should do it. I won't ever "power shift" the car...

When I build it, i will start with the boost at 12psi to keep an eye on the heat soak issues with higher boost. I installed 2 Spal fans on my afco hx. I am sure that will help.

I will just start buying the pieces to the puzzle now so I am ready for next year. 495 RWHP is also fun, I just don't trust the bottom end...

I have a SPEC3 in the car now. I got used to it. The one-piece driveshaft and solid motors helped alot in tight traffic. It sucks being stuck on the LIE with that clutch and 495 rwhp though. I can't imagine 100 to 150 more rwhp...
