You can put the same oil the factory uses, Motorcraft synthetic blend, at WalMart for about $18 for 5 qts plus $3 or $4 for an OE Motorcraft oil filter. Good for up to 7500 miles if you drive granny and don't make a lot of short trips.

New Cameros come from the factory with a 50/50 blend of recycled oil.

There is NOTHING wrong with 'recycled' or reclaimed oil.
They sell it mixed 50/50 with 'new' oil because of the old oil stigma.
Oil does not go bad per-say. It gets contaminated with
the byproducts of internal combustion. And the additives
that are used are compromised. Recycle it and remove
the contaminates along with re-adding the additives
and it becomes like new again. Unlike pouring it down
the storm drain or over the fence in the backyard.

Its not the cost. Its the idea of reusing something
thats not plentiful and very bad for the environment.
The more you buy new, the more you have to get rid of.
You can be the problem or the solution. Its up to you.

So go ahead and slither on down to wally world for some
of that new spensive oil for your $25000 stang.
I really thought you were smart, NUKE.
Fool me once, shame on you....

I wanted to pee my pants at first because of how funny this is, then I remember what I know of recycled oil and it wasn't that funny anymore

Prius engine swap?

(just playing but you might be barking up the wrong tree with conservation speeches here)

but I would feel uncomfortable running recycled half as long as I run full synthetic.

Sheit, I run the new synthetic oil in the Challenger and after
6 months it gets double duty in the Mustang for another 6 months
and then gets triply duty for another 6 months in the AVEO
before becoming recycled.
Three vehicles and one footprint, I always say...

+1 for stigma. I suppose I'm not as smart as you thought, after all, 157db. But at least I run my synthetic for 10,000 miles or so in my Stang and the SUV so I'm NOT pouring the oil down the storm drain or over the fence into the neighbors yard as frequently as many other folks.

Sorry I wont be using "used" oil for any of my cars. As far as carbon footprint...........I have 12 solar panels on my roof. Just doing my part.

There are a lot of differing opinions here. I may have to buy it and change my oil just to see what the difference is in terms of lubrication, fuel economy, driving feel, performance, and longevity.

But if we're recycling something we only have so much of, I'd prefer to use something over again.

After all, the recycling process can't be any worse than the refining process, amirite?
