Default Pinion flange question

I've had a spydershaft on my 08 for about 4 years. Was driving to the gym today and the weather was nice so I decided to practice launching my car. Revved up a bit and punched it when the light turned green. When I got up to around 70 or 80 the shaft broke. I knew what it was immediately and coasted to the shoulder.

I just ordered a steeda replacement. It'll be here wednesday and as this is the fastest replacement I could find at a reasonable price, it is what I went with. My question would be, is the pinion flange going to be the same? The shafts look damn near identical and I would assume it would be fine but I figured it wouldn't hurt to double check.

I would prefer to not have to swap out the flange if I don't have to.

edit: and of course I will be posting pics of the broken shaft after I do the swap

great color choice! I'm shocked (though probably not as much as you I'd bet) that you broke the shaft...your sig correct, just tuned/CAI? Post pics when you can...

Yep, no F/I. Just semi-new tires, a great launch, and the ring and pinion I would assume would increase the force on the driveshaft quite a bit.

No way that shaft should break like that. Total BS. Did you have a loop?

No loop, I didn't think I would really need one and I don't think there is any reason it would have stopped my driveshaft from breaking

New driveshaft came in the mail today. I am pretty sure it is the exact same pinion flange, so I guess that answers my question.

I'll have pics of the broken shaft by tomorrow night.

I'd be interested to see them.

No way a shaft should be breaking like that on a cai/tune with 3.73's (the gears would actually lower the force the driveshaft sees vs 3.31's or 3.55's)

Wouldn't the driveshift spin faster with a higher ratio?

Faster, yes, but with less resistance from the gear set. 70-80 is awfully low for this type failure, which kind of makes it seem RPMs were not the culprit.

Oh okay, that would make sense.

I took a quick peek under the car yesterday and it looks like it cleanly broke off right where the weld is at the rear part of the driveshaft. I ran my finger along both sides and it is completely smooth, it looks like the weld was weak. I guess I got a lemon driveshaft.
