The 5.0 with the stock tune is a bit of a dog in the low RPM band from what I've heard from others. The only reason that I don't know personally is because I'd write them a check in a heartbeat if I got behind the wheel of a 5.0...

Custom tunes do wonders for the low RPM and the 5.0 typically sees roughly 30-40 RWHP gains from custom tunes. Hopefully, that'll get you back in that saddle.

I know that the GT500 has an alternate tuning strategy to limit performance on brand new cars when they ship. Who needs 500+ HP to pull it on and off a truck. Takes something like 50 start / warm up cycles to defeat this "governer" tune. Maybe they are doing this for all new 5.0s now. I find it hard to believe that your V6 could be that close in performance!

that is very very interesting... i do think the BAMA tune on the V6 makes things tougher to distinguish.. i also thought of something else. when i drove that 2011 GT, i had driven to the dealer with my 1995 Toyota Truck.. i think that thing has like 45 hp total, hahahaha. this time i jumped from the bama tuned V6, and things weren't as big of a leap..

regardless. i just found out that Ford is offering some great incentives on 2012 GT's, so i'll probably look for those now. if there's any left.

does anyone know if my BAMA tuner that I use on my V6 can be re-written and used on the GT?

yes the SCT X3 will work on the GT just fine..just unmarry it from your V6 and get a new Tune from bama for the GT and good to go. yea I was looking at a 13 but I can get a 12 premium for same price as a base so i am working with a dealer now on a premium black GT

sweetness! thanks for the info.

btw, current incentive for 2012 Mustang GTs: 0% apr for 60 months + $3,250 cash back to ya. they're trying to wipe the inventory for the 2013s.

Had a 2012 GT Premium with security package, hid package, upgrades wheels, comfort package - it stickered near 38K the dealer was asking 30K (With the 2500 cash back)...

I still bought the 13. The changes are well worth it to me.

Regarding the performance issue, how many miles are on the GT? I remember getting my 2011 V6, when I first got it, for the first few miles, performance was not that good, but when the engine broke in it was much better. Maybe this is the case for the 5.0...

I would think that with 3.73's 1st gear would be pretty much useless in daily driving. I rarely use 1st with 3.31's, unless im really gonna romp on it.

well, i managed to find a 2012 Mustang GT - Grabber Blue with a manual transmission... due to incentives and what-not, i'll be able to get it for under $27k.. leather seats, and such.. problem is that its in baltimore, maryland and i'm in dayton, ohio.......... well, looks like i got myself a road trip!

and thanks for all the info here.. based off of what you all said, i really think it might have something to do with the tune being set until the first several drives or so. plus i have an SCT tuner that i'm going to unmarry from my V6 and grab that GT.. i think.. im still making a final decision on whether or not to jump to the GT in baltimore, but for that price i'm really getting a good deal i think.. thanks again everyone!
