11gt+ vs. used 07+ gt500

If it were me I'd go with the 11 and new engine platform. Don't buy a GT500 if you're hoping it'll be a collector. The cars we consider collector cars are 40+ years old. You willing to wait that long for your car to become a collector? 10 years from now, it'll be a 15 year old GT500, and probably pale in comparison to the GT500 of that generation. They're great cars now, but I'd rather have an 11' and mod it to be my own.

I bought a GT over a used GT500 because I wanted a newer car with (imo), better looks, more creature comforts, a warranty etc. 400+hp is more than enough for me.
if power is the only concern, there are a LOT of high power options in the mid 30s range..

GT500 is already supercharged putting out just under 100 more hp than a stock GT. If you aren't planning on modding, stick with the GT500. The 5.0, you can slap a SC on it and put that GT500 in the dust with the same mods. Also, buying a used GT500, you don't know how the previous owner drove it and you can only assume they punished it, since you know we all would. Shelby is a nice name plate, and unless you're going to put it in the garage and baby it every time you take it out, it wouldn't be worth it in the end. Beat the crap out of a 5.0 and don't feel as bad :P Just my opinion.

2011 GTs are nice cars, but they're still GTs and there are a lot of them out there. Walk through any cruise in and you'll see a ton of nice GTs, but people will still flock around a GT500.

All three you mentioned we pretty limited production runs. Only one of those has a modern incarnation along the same lines as what existed before. Yes, they are getting premiums over their regular counterpart, but it's still a rare case that they are netting anyone a profit. They're cheap power cars, and while they have their fans, they have limited appeal. The SS and WS6 are especially popular because you can get them for 10k, invest another 1-2, and have 500hp. The Termi that people lust after was only available for 2 years, and that is one of the primary reasons they go for a premium. The modern GT500 has already been around for coming on 7 years now. Not trying to **** in anyone's cherrios because I think the GT500 is a fantastic ride.
I'm not saying the resale on a stock GT500 won't be better than a modded 2011 a few years down the road. I'm just saying that I don't think they'll be a collector car in the traditional sense, and I wouldn't ever buy one thinking that. But that is my personal view, and I know there are many out there who lust after the GT500 for the Shelby name, perhaps more so than the performance that comes with it.

That being said I would drive both and see what you like better especially if this is going to be a daily driver.

I do appreciate all the replies fellas. You all have made good arguments for both.
I like the idea of a fairly unique vehicle and the potential the gt500 has. Really a solid 11.5 quarter mile car that handles good too would be great. That's my appeal to the gt500. It sounds like the ease and cost of getting the performance I'm after would make the 500 the best option. Also it sounds like it can handle more power without worrying about scattering the motor. I'll admit though I'm not real clear on what the limits of the new 5.0 motors are with boost or nitrous.
On the other hand it doesn't take a lot to get the coyote cars into the 11's. The cost of a blower is a big negative though. Having a warranty and the gas mileage would be nice.
I'm always back and forth. I guess I'll know when I get one and I don't see anything wrong with either.

I was looking into a GT500, but wife asked nicely to please not get it due to power and she knows what a supercharger can/will do. LOL
What she does not know is the 12 GT tuned, CAI and manifold will be getting pretty close.

I would think that it depends on what GT500 you're looking at. There's a GriggsRacing suspension equipped 2008 GT500(in Vista Blue) with low miles up north in Fresno(I'm in L.A.) for $38K(can probably talk them down from that), but that Griggs setup is like $10K with installation. The GT500 I mentioned is very well looked after and the mods are 1st rate IMO. Do your homework, venture into the GT500 forums and maybe someone that lives close to you has a sweet GT500 in your price range and in 1st rate condition(most GT500s are babied, at least out where I'm at). Good luck with whatever you choose cuz it'll be a Mustang!
