Default Exhaust Setup Help!

so my brother has a 2007 Gt 5 speed. he wants a really loud setup. he wants to run BBK longtubes and o/r xpipe with straight pipes out the back.. bad idea? he asked me to look around so i need help. would it damage his engine? what would he need to do? tune? would o2 sensor be necessary? he also wants to throw in a bbk throttle body 62 mm. help please.

first of all welcome to mustang forums!

if he lives in California its a pain to deal with smog officials so he is better off to get an loud axel back set up(slp, flowmaster, mac, etc..) and keep rest stock. he could do a tune it would help get a better all around vehicle. id suggest a tune from american muscle, they come with 3 tunes and free updates for life. They have it well dialed in and have a good reputation around these forums!

hes not really worried about smog inspections or nothing like that. hes already running straight pipes. with cats. but if he runs long tubes and x pipe what else would he have to do? something with o2 sensors? a tune? should he throw mufflers for back pressure?

back pressure is over rated.
but with no mufflers it will sound like crap.
this is what BBK LT's, o/r x pipe, and no mufflers sound like:

that garbage truck sound was cool for about half an hour.
then i came to my senses and decided to put some M80's on to clean up the sound

much better with some sort of mufflers than straight pipe.
sounding loud and good are 2 different things.
you can get a mixture of the 2, but when you go too loud you sacrifice quality.

also, when you go without cats you will need to retune to turn off your rear O2 sensors.

ooh ok i see what ur saying. his sound pretty good with straigh pipes but im guessing the cats are keeping it a bit quiet.. so if he goes LTs he has to get a tune.. and is that like a tune from American muscle or he has to go somewhere to get it?

several companies offer email tuning. most performance shops could do it but AM is really reliable.

Yup. Can't think of anything else you'd need. A lift maybe, this isn't really a job for jackstands

There's a BIG difference in sound between cats and no cats. The cats do block a lot of sound and that's how people get away with muffler deletes on otherwise stock cars. Once you pitch those cats though, you really need some kinda muffling on there or it just sounds obnoxious. I ran my car for one day with an off road prochamber and could not believe how much louder it was than with high flow cats even.
