Default A theory for vortex generators

Ok, so I know how most people feel about these...

I admit that I kind of like the look of them. Mustangbatman or whatever had a pretty cool look going with the rear window louvers and vortex generators in all black.

I'm undecided about the aesthetic on my particular car, but that's not the point here.

I'm vaguely aware of the aerodynamic purpose of these as well, however, this is my idea: My rear window louvers rattle a bit. Not a big deal but at 80 or so they'll start tapping pretty good. Even more so at higher speeds.

Would these little fins reduce the force of the wind flowing over them to decrease the tapping or would it increase it?

If it would decrease the force, and therefore tapping, then I might be swayed to do it.

What do you guys think?

I've seen them on evos and other imports before, they look okay there. As far as changing air flow enough to make a difference... Wind tunnel testing is an expensive and heavily researched/tested field, I doubt some plastic fins will make a substantial difference.

As far as fixing your rattle problem, I doubt they will do it any better than some fresh 3M tape with good prep.

Save your money. Your spoiler is most likely not even functional, if anything it adds useless drag. Your louvres are probably also adding drag, seeing that they start to lift up when you begin to get some speed.

If you want to mod some, spoilerless, scoopless, (and louvre-less) is probably the best aerodynamic mod for a Mustang.

They would look seriously awful on a Mustang.

I'm uninterested in another thread about the looks of it. I think they can look good on some cars, although I'm still not convinced they're for me. But that isn't the point.

My louvers are prepped and secured as best they can be. Thin aluminum panels tend to flex a bit so they can tap or rattle at higher speeds on the highway.

I don't care about increased or decreased drag, I'm not trying to break speed records. I'm just curious if they effect the airflow over the rear window enough to reduce this. I love my louvers, but if I can elminate rattle, it might be worth looking into vortex generators. Or something.

I don't know guys, I'm just curious.
