Used SCT tuner question
#3
You will most likely have to send it to SCT to be unlocked. They charge $150. Then you buy tunes, and you don't come out much ahead of where you can get a new one through American Muscle. I tried to go that route and just ended up with a new one. If it is a model used with the 4.6, it may not be compatible.

Even if the tuner is unlocked, you can't use the existing tunes unless they're the garbage canned tunes that come from SCT (and even then they may be PCM-specific).

+1. Even if it does have custom tunes for a 2013, they will be ECM stategy code specific. I am pretty sure that each SCT tuner comes with 5 "unlocks". That is you can configure it or down load tunes into it for up to 5 vehicles, 1 at a time. I had one that I used on 3 different vehicles. I sold it, unmarried of coarse, with 2 unlocks left. I am pretty sure that the above poster is correct in saying that it is $150 to send it to SCT to have it completely unlocked. Although it is a great programming device, SCT's customer service is the worst in the world.
