Before electronic fuel injection it was tested and proven that pressing the gas pedal down once quickly to get up to speed was better than accelerating up to speed slowly. I've read differently with fuel injection.

Another test...

25mpg@68mph average, 100% highway driving

Cruise control was set at 70mph, but had to let off for a small portion of time (changed highways)

On the way home from a few errands I set cruise at 60 and monitored the MPG. I was impressed with an average of 28.3 on several 2+ mile, flat and straight sections of the ride. The tach was right at 1600-1650 and just purred right along. I know that once you break the 2000 RPM range the milage starts dropping quickly.

It's good to know that these cars get pretty damn good gas mileage for what they are. I plan on using mine as a daily driver year round so I need to take this into consideration prior to purchase.

Take what you've read here with a grain of salt. People will often post numbers based on hitting the reset button while cruising and not the value when they're at the pump after a fill-up which is the ONLY time to hit the reset if you're trying to determine a real-world average fuel mileage.

In city driving with a lead foot you're likely to see about 15 MPG or less. Filling up on the highway with steady state 65-70 MPH with the cruise on with mostly flat terrain and 26-28 MPG isn't unheard of, give or take also based on tire OD, gears, weather, etc.

THIS ^^^

These cars will do fairly well on the highway because of the very tall 5th gear. However, if your town is on a hill like mine, expect around 13-15mpg city. They are efficient only because of their low gearing; as soon as you apply throttle the efficiency plummets.

^^^still very good mileage considering, to me anyways. I have a GMC 2500hd 6.0 liter that gets 12mpg on a good day (all highway). So 15 is good in my eyes for city driving. If I could average 20 then it will work for me.

It also depends on the gear ratio you have in your car while driving in top gear. Bone stock GTs will tend to hover around 2-2,300 RPM at 75-80 (FL speed limits can allow this!). However, if you drive more typical highway speeds, you'll be even lower. I've been able to get a shade under 24 MPG cruising at 70-80 MPH, which blows my mind. Add in some city driving (it's about an 80/20 Hwy/City split for me as well) and I'm looking at 20 combined...still pretty impressive

Yup. I actually stopped resetting the AVG MPG and it is giving a much more representative number.
Based on real-world mixed driving (80/20) across many tanks of gas, I am staying around 22 MPG.

18mpg all city. I have done 21.x mpg all city driving hyper-miler style once. That is almost 4 banger territory right there. But I really wasn't enjoying the drive. This is all hand calculated, but the mpg computer is pretty spot on in mine. Unlike the one in my grand marquis, that is always 1-2mpg off. Yeah, don't do 18 in that, more like 16 all city.

I am 100% stock, this will change in the future, and then my car will probably get less gas mileage. Especially when I do cams (and possibly heads).
