Default Strange aux-looking cable down near footrest?

Hey guys,

First off I'd like to say hello to everyone as I am new to the forums. I just got my 05' GT last month and I'm still getting used to most things being different than my previous ride. (an '00 Durango)

Something unusual I noticed is a cable about 2 inches in length extending from way down under the dashboard and just kind of hanging down there... The end of the cable is the same size and shape as an aux input jack but I am hesitant to plug anything into it because it is in a really strange place and I have no idea what its purpose is.

Is this strange cable in all mustangs? It's midnight here so I can't get a good picture right now but I may be able to post one tomorrow.

Thanks!

I love a good mystery. Is there an aftermarket head unit installed? Shaker 500? What type of connector? RCA? Mini jack? Can you get the AUX input on the head unit to do anything?

Yea, what type of connector.
3.5mm stereo plug or jack?
Ford made an aux add on called trip tunes.
If the stereo is OEM I am betting it is TripTunes.
I know the S197 electrical system inside and out.
That is aftermarket something. Could be anything.

Pics are worth a thousand words...
I bet its TripTunes

You kind see it just poking out down there near the clutch.. I tried plugging my android into it and it recognizes the plug as headphones. However, I tried playing sounds from the recorder app on my phone though it and heard nothing.

I apologize for the size of the pictures, if you'd like me to repost them I'll try a different pic host

Dig some old Walkman or something out of the attic and plug it in to see what happens. Though I don't think that plug would do any damage if you plugged an iPod in to it.

Default Please re-post pics!

Hey CR26! Could you repost those pics bigger size? Got free time and I'm all for finding out what it's for!

For the record, I had the FRD-04 POD/S that let me control an iPod/iPhone through the Shaker...had all sorts of issues with gauges and even my engine dieing...so I ripped it out and cut off the pass-through connector to C290A. Had the wrong pins though, just need to resolder.

BUT if the jack is already hiding in plain sight...I'll use that instead!

That could be for an after market SIRIUS unit. One of the four plugs for them is that style....just cannot remember which...possibly the antenna adapter.
