Default Unexpected shutdown

Hey everyone, I have an 05 GT 4.6 manual. I recently got this and have done some repairs already (fuel pump, sending unit, brakes). At any rate, I am seeing an issue that is puzzling. Occasionally, when slowing for a stop or turn, the car will die. Not due to poor clutch work but it will just shut off completely. A couple of times, I had enough momentum to pop the clutch for a restart but, no-go, had to use the key. It restarts right away and does fine for awhile. My initial thought is this may be an issue with the throttle-body. I have looked into this and have seen two recommendations. The first is to clean the TB. I can do that but the other recommendation is to NOT clean the TB due to a coating that Ford put on it. So, first, could this issue be related to the TB? If not, what then? If it is, how bad is it to clean the TB and remove the Ford coating?

Just clean the TB with the recommended TB cleaner and go from there. clean the MAF as well with its recommended MAF cleaner. do not use any other cleaners for the specified part! let them dry completely before hooking back up and starting car. while cleaning the TB and MAF, unhook the battery to erase the data the comp has saved on fuel trim and all that. when you hook the battery back up, you will start with a fresh fuel table and other parameters. how many miles and have the spark plugs been changed? any pending codes? good luck

Thanks for the info on the cleaners, will pick some up and give it a try. Good suggestion with the battery, I would not have thought of that. The car has 133K. I just picked it up last month so not sure on the plugs. Most likely change those out as well. I will probably wait about 30 days between each though to see if one does it. No codes. Car is pretty clean for the miles and age. Going to be my retirement toy.

Just to add to the good advice you've received so far, you'll need to go through the idle relearn procedure as described in the owner's manual after you restart the engine.

If you have the original two piece plugs you will need to be careful when removing them. There should be a few threads on here about that. Champion makes a one piece plug for our cars.
