Default 2012 5.0 w/16k miles Clutch Slipping

I recently bought a used 2012 Mustang 5.0 6 speed manual and I've only put a couple hundred miles on it and the clutch has been slipping already. When I first got it, on a 20-80 mph spirited run the clutch slipped a little in 2nd and 3rd gear. Yesterday I took it to 150 mph and the clutch slipped a little bit in 4 or 5th gear (can't remember) and when I slowed down I could smell a burnt smell for a while. Now today I'm going 60 mph in 6th gear and it slipped several times. Is this going to be replaced under warranty?

Depends on the reason for failure. A clutch, like brake pads, is considered a wear item. Meaning if misuse or abuse is the culprit, you are out of luck for a warranty repair. If the clutch failed due to mechanical failure that is not from abuse/misuse, they'll cover it.

You obviously bought a car from someone that thrashed the car for the first 16K. My '12 has almost 50K on it and I'm still on the stock clutch and it's working fine.

Remind me to never buy a manual transmission car again..how will they determine if its been misused or abused? I really don't think the previous owner did it, he was a old man and he kept his car in perfect shape. Unless maybe he just rode the clutch...which I doubt, because a guy that old will have had plenty of previous experience driving stick.

When they drop the tranny and inspect the clutch parts and flywheel they'll look for scoring and glazing, obvious signs of burning up the clutch/riding it, burning out, etc. If you're flywheel comes out looking like a rainbow (purple, violet, blue hues) and the clutch disc is shinney (like glass) that's abuse.

Hello ronnies_mustang_5o,

I recommend you bring it in to your Ford dealer as soon as possible and have it looked at. Your Service Manager is in the best position to look into this for you. He can check into any warranty, Recalls, or Customer Satisfaction Programs that may apply to your vehicle. Let me know the outcome.

Plot twist:

Got his first car as his retirement gift to himself and happened to be a manual Mustang.
