06 GT Automatic transmission leak, suspect control lever seal
Have a new "used" 06 GT, had a definite transmission fluid leak during inspection. Seemed all around seal & pan. Leaked a good amount whether hot or cold.
Changed out the pan out for a trick flow pan with dipstick. However, the leak is still there and the pan seems nice and dry.
The leak is definitely at the area of the Digital transmission range sensor. So its either the Manual control lever seal in this immediate area. Only other thing it could be is the O-ring for the speed sensor further up on the transmission body. (one of these: Output shaft speed, turbine shaft speed, and intermediate shaft speed sensors)
But I suspect the manual control lever seal, however searching online and the forum doesn't really show this as a common issue. Transmission is a TCI 5R55S unit.
Over the 24 hrs since I last drove the car I have checked the leak and the leak seems constant between the first 12 hrs and the last 12 hrs.
Any advice on fixing this issue? It would seem the manual control lever seal could be fixed while the transmission is still in the car. I could get access to a lift but doing it on stands would be something I could do in my own garage.

This tranny is known for purging hot fluid out when it gets driven hard. It dumps the hot fluid through a tube on top of the trans which drains into your bell housing and then onto your garage floor. A trans catch can solves this issue. JDM sells a nice one.

Leaked cold so not the overflow. Took the $6 seal to a recommended mechanic and they did it in two hours of shop time. Well worth the $200 charge. I was afraid it would be over $500.
Funny thing, despite finding hardly any evidence of this issue & repair on the internet, both the dealer that sold me the seal and the mechanic who fixed it says its a fairly common problem.

Glad it was a cheap fix and yes I have never heard of that issue and have been on the mustang boards for 4 years now. Do you have a CAI and tune in there yet? If not you are missing some major fun for cheap over stock.

The car is pretty much setup already with whipple & LT headers. Prior owner claimed 495HP at the wheels. Trying to get all the leaks fixed so I can get it retuned as prior owner put on the headers and 3.73 gears after the last tune. I should do a post on it.

Nice setup. Be careful with the HP and torque. The stock 5r55 doesnt like it over 450 ft/lbs as a rule of thumb. Trans can let go before the motor thats for sure so make sure your tuner is good at what he does.
